Trump says NASA should stop talking about going back to the Moon

US President Donald Trump sowed some confusion with a tweet saying NASA should stop talking about going back to the Moon

US President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that NASA should stop talking about going back to the Moon, which caused confusion since his administration aims to restart Moon landings by 2024.

"For all the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon - We did that 50 years ago," Trump tweeted from Air Force One while returning from a visit to Europe.

"They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!" Trump said.

Trump's exact meaning was uncertain, but he may have been urging the US space agency to put more of a focus on the voyage to Mars, with the Moon serving as just a stepping stone.

Vice President Mike Pence announced plans in April to return to the Moon by 2024 although some space experts doubt whether the deadline can be met.

On its website, NASA, which made six manned Apollo missions to the Moon between 1969 and 1972, says that "exploration of the Moon and Mars is intertwined."

"The Moon provides an opportunity to test new tools, instruments and equipment that could be used on Mars, including human habitats, life support systems, and technologies and practices that could help us build self-sustaining outposts away from Earth," it says.

Speaking in April, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said "this time, when we go to the Moon, we're actually going to stay.

"We're not going to leave flags and footprints and then come home to not go back for another 50 years," he said.

Trump rarely tweets about space or NASA, leaving the agency in the hands of Pence and focusing more on its military aspects such as the creation of a " force."

One of his last tweets on the subject was on May 13 when he said "Under my Administration we are restoring @NASA to greatness and we are going back to the Moon, then Mars.

"I am updating my budget to include an additional $1.6 billion so that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!" he said.

Trump is without a doubt the worst ever US President in the history of the Republic.

He's a low-IQ, narcissistic anti-democratic racist bully, a serial liar and a grifter, a multiple bankrupt who lost all of daddy's gift-money, a woman hater, an immigrant hater, whose only grip on reality is his small hand lifting yet another cheeseburger to his pig face, and has the attention span of a cockroach.

POTUS = POS !

Treat anything he says or tweets with utter disdain.

Stop this nonsense of moonshine
Moonshine is to be drunk neat
For not 50 years hence
Billions were wasted for naught
As more billion will still be wasted for naught
If we pursue this Martian regolith
As this moonshine
Whether its moon or Martian regolith
Both are desolate desolation money pits
Because
We are still using rocket propellant
These billions
Firstly will give us
Our Rotating Space Port
That with this archaic rocket propellant
President Donald Trump
Spend our trillions
On Our Rotating Space Port
And

This will multiply your investment untold times
As

Trump is right on this one. No point repeating the whole moon program

His point is that we should repeat the Moon program, and use it as a stepping stone for Mars. Way to miss his point.

And yes, he is correct. It is awkwardly worded but this is essentially what Musk wants to do, too. Lunar flights first, Mars missions few years later.

The funding is there, too. It is just incorrectly distributed, going towards wasteful projects like SLS, Gateway and Orion instead of commercial space companies such as SpaceX and Blue Origin. Change this, and we wont have to ask whether to go to the Moon or Mars, as we will be able to afford both.

Not sure about Our Rotating Space Port, but gradual privatization of the ISS is certainly on the list, too. Bigelow or Axiom will put a private module up there soon.

First Our Rotating Space Port

Then the plants and to infinity and beyond
ShotmanMaslo
Simply 100s of the giant shuttle tanks
Sent into earth's orbit
Welded into a giant ring with radiating struts
Fitted out
Set into rotation at 1g
With docking station for the hundreds of space ferries
Complete with massive fuel dumps
To refuel these space ferries
To propel these space ferries full of 1000s of space tourist an experience of their lifetime
ShotmanMaslo, once built
Billions of space tourists will be sailing to this Space Port every year
Bringing in trillions in revenue
We will never again be short of funding in space exploration ever again

Without Our Rotating Space Port
Space exploration
Is just going to continue to struggle from pillar to post
Bankrupting the economy
Because
It is losing all these trillions of dollars

Donald Trump is THE BEST President the US has ever had, and we are saying that as a transplanted Briton of English descent. He has done so much more good things for the American citizens than any other president before him. He has proven how much he loves his country by all of his good works for the nation and its people.
YOU, of course would like to see the USA go down in flames and be overrun by foreign illegal immigrants that would have to be supported by Americans.

Still denying data. Trump's own Twitter posts.

Hey, either you want to support space exploration or you don't. Make up your fucking mind.

@SEU, your remarks show very clearly you are just as out of touch with political reality as your previous remarks in this science forum have consistently shown you to have no understanding of science.

You're a bombastic unschooled psychotic narcissistic religious troll. And, as the Brits are wont to say, you can shove that in your pipe and smoke it.

The Apollo astronauts are on record as having been warned while on the Moon to not return to the Moon. More recently, flashes of light have been seen on the Moon, and neither NASA nor the federal gov't knows what is causing those flashes of light from a body where there is no known reflective material.
So, if President Trump hasn't been told the origins and causes for those flashes, it would be on the side of caution to delay any travel by humans to the Moon until it is known what those flashes are and why they happen. It is unwise to send humans to the Moon first without better data.
A rotating spaceport will be a good source of revenue if the structure is sound.

This link explains a little:

https://www.foxne...hes-moon

Sending a rover to the Moon is not the same as sending humans there.

Maybe the Trumpster fire should stop talking about NASA returning to the Moon if he's gonna dis it later. Fucking liar.

Jun 09, 2019
They can't get the sound bites right because it's part of a scam.

Pretending that we are going to the Moon or Mars (without committing even 1% of the funding necessary to actually do it) is all part of a half-baked cover story for the real plan: to militarize space with spyware, internet monopoly control, and anti-satellite jamming and electronic warfare capabilities.

The plan is to blanket the world in tens of thousands of low-orbiting, atmosphere skimming, very visible satellites that will blot out the stars and crash on us occasionally, while dominating internet, surveillance and all other higher orbiting satellites.

Musk and Bezos are front running for the NSA, just like Howard Hughes pretended to be a treasure hunter for the CIA back in the day. Just like crony-capitalism and government Intel money keeps google and Facebook afloat and dominant.

The plan is not to explore Mars, the plan is to make a prison planet.

But even if what you say is all true, what is the point in all of it? Money? Power/Control? A form of terrorism against humanity? Someone's Ego-trip? What would be the end-result in the long run, and how long could it be sustained before crashing?
Not everyone can or would want to go to the Moon or Mars. Most everyone in this century will live and die on Earth as they eke out a living while trying to find happiness. All of what you are claiming would be the work of a madman; perhaps what you have described would be the ambitions of the Beast of which it is foretold. Trump has no such ambition. Perhaps a second term and then back to building/construction.

Trump read the cost and understood that it is not feasible at this time to do what he thought that NASA should be doing - preparing for manned missions to the Moon and then Mars.
So the next best thing is to allow SpaceX and other privately owned companies to take on the burden of cost and tech to advance science to the Moon and beyond. That is a better alternative than to ruin the USA economically when it can least afford it at this time.
Trump is a businessman and understands economics very well. He makes the right decisions that benefit the USA and our allies.

The last time I heard about President Trump, he did not own slaves as did Washington, Adams and Jefferson. The founding fathers of the USA were involved in a civil war called the American Revolution against King George of GB which the colonials won, in spite of being slave owners.

Incidentally, there are many countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle and Near East where slavery is still practised, but very little 'hue and cry' is done by liberal Socialists in the US and Europe regarding that modern slavery. Perhaps it is considered acceptable as long as it is not happening in the US or European countries.

This Solution to this Space Funding

First things first - Our Rotating Space Port
Then to these planets then to infinity and beyond
Simply 100s of the giant shuttle tanks
Sent into earth's orbit
Welded into a giant ring with radiating struts
Fitted out
Set into rotation at 1g

For once built
Billions of space tourists will be sailing to this Space Port every year
Bringing in trillions in revenue
We will never again be short of funding in space exploration ever again

p.s. until our rotating space port is built, we will continue this pillar to post lack of space funding with no permanent base in orbit complete with massive refuelling dumps, for lack of fuel in orbit is this barrier to space travel

Jun 10, 2019
For lack of fuel in orbit is this barrier to space travel

Along with lack of fuel
Being this primary barrier to space travel
Once Our Rotating Space Port is completed
We are then in space permanently
In this earthly gravity of 1g
As nature intends
Our only ultimate barrier disregarding fuel
For on our journeys to mars
These space ferries
Have to rotate
Rotate at 1g
For the human body cannot permanently withstand zero gravity to mars and back again
This Martian space ferry has to rotate at 1g
Whether we like it or not
For 1g is a basic essential human requirement
Just as man and women cannot permanently live out doors
Man and women cannot permanently live in zero gravity
For ultimately zero gravity is this absolute barrier to sailing this vacuum
Fore where ever we travel occupying this vacuum
Our space ferry has to rotate at 1g

Sorry, Segg but that's not the truth about him and money and where he got it.
It's not a problem now since he is using the tax payer's money. Still waiting on what happened to the billions lost in every one of his (so-called) businesses.

Trump came by his personal wealth honestly, unlike Hillary Clinton. He has lost billions and gained billions. That is how business works - you win some and you lose some. His honest dealings with business associates, customers, employees and his materials providers haven't said anything untoward about him and his business practises and I have heard no complaints.
As POTUS he is being paid by the taxpayers and Congress decides who gets how much.

@JaxPavan

You don't like it. I don't much like it either. But if the western hemisphere is to continue being free and democratic through the rule of Law - militarism must be maintained to keep free nations free. Otherwise, the enemies of freedom will just come in and walk all over you and everyone else. This is also the big reason why gun control laws don't work. Those who abide by and observe the Law would be helpless to defend themselves and their families if laws were enacted to prevent gun ownership so that those who are lawless criminals could use stolen guns and knives and baseball bats and anything else they can use as a weapon - against innocent folks.
The Moon must be militarised by the US so that our enemies won't be able to use it as a launching pad for nuclear missiles. The same with Mars. Without it, be prepared for countries like China to use the Moon against us. It might happen anyway unless something is done quickly.

MrBoo is correct re both John Adams and his son.

Not only did slave laborers help build the White House all of the earliest presidents (except for John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams) were slave owners. George Washington kept some 300 bondsmen at his Mount Vernon plantation. Thomas Jefferson—despite once calling slavery an "assemblage of horrors"—owned around 175 servants. James Madison, James Monroe and Andrew Jackson each kept several dozen slaves, and Martin Van Buren owned one during his early career.

William Henry Harrison owned several inherited slaves before becoming president in 1841, while John Tyler and James K. Polk were both slaveholders during their stints in office. Zachary Taylor, who served from 1849-1850, was the last chief executive to keep slaves while living in the White House. He owned some 150 servants on plantations in Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana. Ulysses S. Grant also held one slave but gave him his freedom in 1859 before the Civil War.

It may be weird and irrelevant to you, but it is not irrelevant to those who are still in bondage. You are obviously one of those who think that slavery no longer exists in the world. Well, it does, in spite of your denial of it.
