Lunar tunnel engineers excited by boring Moon colonies

Jamal Rostami believes Moon colonists could live underground
Jamal Rostami believes Moon colonists could live underground

As space agencies prepare to return humans to the Moon, top engineers are racing to design a tunnel boring machine capable of digging underground colonies for the first lunar inhabitants.

"Space is becoming a passion for a lot of people again. There are discussions about going back to the moon, this time to stay," US-Iranian expert Jamal Rostami told AFP at this year's World Tunnel Congress in Naples.

The administration of US President Donald Trump wants NASA to put humans back on the Moon by 2024, and the agency is also drawing up plans for a "Gateway" station to serve as a platform for astronauts travelling to and from the .

Billionaires Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are among those feverishly competing for military, civil or commercial launches, with Musk's SpaceX leading the race on building rockets ready to fly in time.

But the on the surface of the Moon mean that, once up there, humans need to be shielded from radiation and freezing temperatures in structures which maintain in a vacuum.

They also need protection from meteorite strikes.

"Imagine something the size of my fist as a piece of rock coming at 10-12 kilometres (6-7 miles) per second, it can hit anything and would immediately destroy it," Rostami said at the meeting in southern Italy.

"So every plan for having a habitat on the moon involves making a trench, creating a structure and covering it with some sort of regolith, which is the soil on the moon.

"Our idea is to actually start underground, using a mechanism we already use on the earth, a tunnel boring machine, to make a continuous opening to create habitats or connect the colonies together," he added.

Analysis of images of the lunar surface show lava tubes capable of housing large cities underground, said Rostami, director of the Earth Mechanics Institute at the US Colorado School of Mines.

Streamlining

But getting something as vast as a tunnel boring machine up there will be no easy task.

Moonshot: The race is on as billionaires are among those rushing to build rockets to take humans to the lunar surface

"Weight is an issue. It's pretty expensive to take a kilogramme of material from the earth to the . Our are hundreds of tonnes of mass, so it's not feasible to take the machines as they are," he said.

"We have to convert the design, where all the components are optimised, weigh much less, and perform better."

The machines also have to become fully automated and repairs reduced to a minimum, a particular challenge when dealing with tools that see a lot of wear and tear as they eat through rock and dirt.

There is also the question of how to power them.

With a four-metre diameter machine needing some 2,000 kilowatts of energy, experts are debating whether it is possible to use small nuclear power plants to fuel a lunar version, he said.

Frozen treasure

There may be 1,000 people living in by 2050—either in orbit or on the Moon—according to the American United Launch Alliance, which estimates this initial space exploration will cost 2.7 trillion dollars.

Despite some talk of the first space residents using mining tools like lunar tunnel boring machines (LTBM) to dig for precious minerals, Rostami said their priorities would lie in extracting something even more precious.

"We're not talking about gold. The first target is water. We know there is trapped water at the lunar poles, where the temperature is as low as -190 degrees Celsius (-310 Fahrenheit)".

"One of the ideas being discussed is of heating the part in permanent shadow, evaporating the water and capturing it," said Rostami, who has launched the world's first Masters degree and PhD in Space Resource Engineering in Colorado.

"Another idea is to mine it, and take it to a facility and let it thaw. The material extracted along with the water can then be used to 3D print buildings in the colonies," he said.

One thing is sure: the future LTBM will undergo rigorous pilot testing on Earth first "because once it's deployed, that's that. It'll be very difficult to make any drastic changes".

Given that we know the moon has lava tubes, why would anyone go to the expense of boring tunnels?

Finally. I couldn't stand the idiocy of these inflatable (or even above-ground printed) Moon colony designs.
Radiation.
Micrometeorites.
Extreme heat/cold gradients.

All of this you can defend against by going underground. There's no real reason for staying above ground. Certainly not for the view. The idea of using borers also minimizes the number of machines you need to set up a habitat to, basically, one (unlike the ditch/regolith-cover method).

A non-contact borer (laser melting of regolith) would be ideal to eliminate any kind of mechanical wear and tear. Downside is the vastly increased power requirement or - if that is not to be had - a much extended timescale.

(I also wonder whether a minimal-contact solution, like ultrasound fragmentation of regolith, would be feasible?)

May 10, 2019
OF COURSE. And who has been saying this for years? Thats right, otto has.

This is why musk has his own boring company. The BFR is just the right diameter for boring machine components. 6 or 8 missions could deliver a robotic, fully autonomous nuke-powered machine that could start creating habitable space in just the right location, adjacent to resources, ready made for human occupation.

There will be mining on planets and moons, and what better place to live in than all that clean, protected, pressurizable, ready made space? Cubic miles of it. Cisterns for water, air, fuel. If we're really bold we can create huge cavities using Plowshare nuclear explosives. Imagine a tunneled out honeycomb cube and a nuke. Instant void hundreds of meters in diameter, vitrified walls, habitable in 6 months.

Musk is also developing underground transport to link up colonies and share resources.

And look at this...
All of this you can defend against by going underground
...even diehard 'let's live in tin cans and pringles boxes in space' loonies can have rational moments.
A non-contact borer (laser melting of regolith) would be ideal to eliminate any kind of mechanical wear and tear
'Subterrenes' were devices explored 50 years ago that melted rock with nuclear heat.
https://en.m.wiki...bterrene

-But conventional borer tech exists right now and we have lots of experience with it.

Some say that nuke-powered borers have been doing this very thing beneath our feet for decades now, given the very real dangers of global annihilation and the availability of this tech back in the 60s. Whole cities could already exist underground. And no, you wouldn't know anything about them.

May 10, 2019
Heres a fringe conspiracy site that discusses some very real potential, including laser borers, that has been discussed for decades.
http://www.projec...ses.html

-No I'm not saying they exist. But they ARE not-unrealistic extrapolations based on this potential.

You need them where you are (say at a pole) and not where they appeared.

this suggestion of a lunar underground nuclear explosion
habitable in 6months time
how long before it is safe to go anywhere near this nuclear detonation
in these flimsy suits moonians have to wear
when this radioactivity has fallen to a safe level
these handful of moonians pick up their pickaxes and shovels and venture forth
and start the arduous task of shovelling this rubble out these tunnels
really, moonians in flimsy tight restrictive space suits
with limited air supply where they get hot and sweaty in their space suits
there is no way people who are not hardened navies going to last 5minutes
the only people who can complete this arduous task are skilled workmen miners
this is a job description that if an astronaut applied for at the labour exchange
the jobcentre girls would look at this pasty faced feeble applicant before her in a fit of giggles
before everyone gets excited at the prospect of mining moon tunnels
only labourers can apply to be astronauts

oh granny...
" the only people who can complete this arduous task are skilled workmen miners "
Oh really?
Have you ever checked out the death statistics among Earth miners?
& all the ugly varieties of death, they suffer?

The only people in training for this type of work off Earth?
Are experienced (expensive!) intensely trained, Hardsuit divers.

& they will each need onsite? Support teams of well educated. experienced submersible engineers, technicians & environmental systems experts.
Not just expensive to train but also to outfit & launch to improbable sites for an outpost.
What's your expected ROI?
What possibly could they accomplish?
That a swarm cheap drone or robot won't do safer, less costly, more efficiently

There is still no evidence that proves that any life,
much less Human
can survive, thrive, & reproduce in Low-gravity.
Guess what?

Big joke on the deluded
The ISS is not far enough out of the Earth's gravity attraction to decide on long-range conclusions.

May 10, 2019
Any team that can placidly work together in unison, handle their emotions and fears, and can operate the tools and machinery deemed necessary, can accomplish feats of engineering in space. They just need to be healthy and not fat slobs who can't pull on their space boots without struggle. That rules a lot of us out.

But for long term sublunarian colonies you will have to consider the low gravity as it's effects will likely change human anatomy during the breeding process. Interestingly there are already tests in this field.

So I've heard there's this new space race at the moon for the rim of Shackelton crater and the peaks of eternal light (PELs) at the south pole. Something on the order of 95% year round sun light at these locations, ripe for solar energy harvesting. I wonder how land appropriation will work there on another space orb, because you know these sublunarian colonies will be in the proximity of the PELs. Maybe it'll be split up like how Antarctica is?

" the only people who can complete this arduous task are skilled workmen miners "
Oh really?

We all know rrwillsj, people cannot live on the moon
the solution is simple, build large rotating domes joined together as dumbbells
and live permanently in them
it negates the point of living on the moon but how else are we going to achieve 1g
anyways, this lunar landscape does look a mite barren
there are more life forms in the Gobi desert than on the lunar landscape
As no one lives in the Gobi desert

May 10, 2019
More space hype. Sure it is possible but the economics make no sense. Do we really want to subsidise bases and colonies just so we can have bases and colonies in places much worse than any place on Earth? Colonies that are expensive to establish yet do not pay - cannot pay - their own way perish. It is only with a sustained and long history of successfully paying their own way can the technological, social and economic capabilities equivalent or exceeding that of an advanced industrial nation - the minimum needed for self sufficiency - be developed.

There is nothing there that isn't easier and cheaper to find or make here on Earth, not even vacuum.

May 10, 2019
well granny. as for living in the Gobi Desert? It actually has it's survivable, if not pleasant, biomes.
Of course that would explain the perpetually grumpy faces of Bactrian Camels!

There is Gravity consisting of Gravitrons at the Planck Foundational Level.
A Constant of Mass.
Infinite & Eternal.
A Universal Attractant.

There are the fantasies speculating of artificial gravity as a staple of Science Fiction.
Without any unnecessary rational possibility.

There is the illusion of gravitational imitation.
Such as centrifugal & centripetal acceleration.

Real Gravity always pulls, remorselessly, without fail or exhaustion.
Only limited by the Inverse Square Law.
Cause, you know! Too much of a good thing?
EH/BH bye-bye

Imitation gravity always, pushes, accelerates. Always dependent on delta/v (whether a rocket or a swing or a merry-go-rpund).

Imitation gravity always has an on/off switch.
Cut the power input?
Welcome to momentum.
When momentum slackens?
Welcome to inertia!

How about protecting Earth from heavy industry, by moving it to the Moon? How about building space stations and spacecraft IN SPACE using material mined from the Moon which are 24 times cheaper to get into "space" than from Earth? How about the Science that can be done on the Moon? How about giving mankind a dream, a reason to get out of bed in the morning? Earths population is going to runaway on us and cause our downfall. We HAVE to move into space.

Hahaha self delusion at its best.

"In 2017, 80 million international migrants were residing in Asia, compared to 78 million in
Europe. Northern America hosted the third largest number of international migrants (58
million), followed by Africa (25 million), Latin America and the Caribbean (10 million),
and Oceania (8 million) (figure 2)... High-income countries have absorbed most of the recent growth in the global population of international migrants, gaining 64 million of the 85 million migrants added
worldwide between 2000 and 2017. As a result, the rate of growth of the migrant population
was highest during 2000-2017 (2.9 per cent per year) in high-income countries."

-Overpopulation is an unprecedented CRISIS.

We'll get out there but it won't be until after 2100. I'd be overjoyed to be wrong.

Lava tubes are empty for a reason....openings! These have to be sealed. Tunnels will have to have structures inside them, sealed structures. No one knows how many cracks filled with meltable material exist in off world geologic structures. We have a spray sealer for cracks in foundations, etc Perhaps we can make the same stuff from Lunar materials. Make our tube home in bulkheaded sectionis, like a submarine. Look to our Navy for inspirations.

We will have to be dust conscious, as dusts off world can contain....anything. And that 'anything' could be bad for us, for there is much we do not even know about ..Earth.., our home. Think of how strange materials can be from unknown environments. Lava tubes will make possible shirtsleeve environmented service garages for large outside equipment.

Old saying in Africa.. Make a home! Safe! Once made, only leave when you have a clear path of return

Only then do research when your necessaries are seen to.

In a few short years when the financial collapse of the US occurs and the masses are starving in the streets you will ask yourself " Where did all the money go". At that point you will understand how some scientists have milked the system without producing useful work.

May 11, 2019
In a few short years when the financial collapse of the US occurs
I thought It was your position that Trump was sorting all these problems out - and the U.S. economy was stronger now than it had been in for ever! The stock market is soaring, unemployment is almost zero - black and Hispanic workers have never had such low unemployment, corporate profits are soaring, etc. etc. Aren't you being contradictory here?
I personally see some big cracks in the economy - not least of which being the deficits. But Trump said he was going to fix that problem in just a few months. But we have gotten through some rough times before - so I would make no predictions. It is exciting to look at the possibility of space exploration. Maybe subterranean colonies do make the most sense. Stretching our boundaries is important - right?

May 12, 2019
Onions with the national debt doubling every 8 years or so under Regan,Bush, Obama and now possibly Trump I think that we have a real spending problem that a mere fiddling with income tax rates cannot fix. SS, medicare and state/local pensions are promises that we will soon be unable to keep. Hyperinflation and crash is the end result of this run away spending.

May 12, 2019
If currency is a storage medium for one's labor then the government is stealing the labor of everyone who has money in the bank or in government bonds by printing new dollars. With interest rates being as low as they are the savers are subsidizing the borrowers. The government is giving money to the banks at near zero rates and the banks are lending it back to the government for a guaranteed profit. No wonder individual savings accounts pay only .1% or so while inflation is at least 5% or more.

What the hell is the point of sending people away from the comparative paradise of the Earth to be imprisoned in a Moon tunnel?
And why do that on the Moon when you can much more safely easily and cheaply imprison people in a tunnel on Earth? -there's absolutely no point in doing either but at least the latter isn't quite as bad!

+ people permanently living in/on the Moon would mean them being constantly exposed to very low gravity which will have dire long term health effects, especially on any growing children, such as brittle bone disease, abnormally long bone length growth, muscle entropy, dangerously high blood pressure in the head, etc.

Only a loon would want and choose to go and live in/on the Moon if he is well informed about all what that means.

I have a better idea; rather than WASTE BILLIONS of $ sending some people to live in a Moon tunnel, why not use that same BILLIONS of $ to do something that is ACTUALLY GOOD, such as end world poverty?

Humy has a cunning plan
Use these wasted moon dollars on Moonian prison cells
Use it to feed these starving millions instead

This Moonian Alcatraz

At least with the space station
a rocket can be sent up at a moment's notice
where the residents can be brought down
but on these Moonian prison cells

it could be weeks or months before a rocket could be sent up
these Moonian prison cells
will be likened
to the residents of Alcatraz
Absolutely no parole
and
Absolutely no means of escape

I'd dance with joy if Trump choked to death on a burger. I'd make pilgrimages to his grave site to take a piss. I really can't overstate how much I detest him. However, while the moon certainly wouldn't be my first choice in places to colonize, if Trump were to get a colony established on the moon, I'd finally have to give him credit for something. I have listened to 8 different presidential administrations alternately promise Mars or the Moon and seen nothing but money spent on uncompleted projects. I don't blame NASA, but rather that each presidential administration changes NASA's goals, provides insufficient funding, and NASA has to drop what it was doing. Fix that and I'll be hopeful. Otherwise this iteration of the moon colony will be dropped when this flash paper economy is ashes or the next president wants to make his mark promising vaporware.

Several have said the money for this project would be better spent solving world poverty. If I thought that would actually happen if the manned space exploration budget were eliminated, I'd be in favor of it. However, there is absolutely no reason to think it would happen when a sizable portion of humanity is very greedy. California in the '50's and 60's had a public school system that was the envy of the rest of the country. Now it is one of the worst. Why? Greedy people had a cow when asked to help educate other people's kids and stopped property tax revenue going to schools. When they can't even be bothered to help their own neighbors, can anyone see these people help strangers on the other side of the world?

Second, if you want to save money, go for where the most is wasted, the military industrial complex. IIRC, Trump's latest budget proposal has/had(?) something like 60% of the budget going to kill people in new and exciting ways. Apparently the greedy are generous about death.

I agree. And the only way to do this is to destroy the religionist cultures that are overpopulating with the intent of outgrowing and overwhelming their neighbors.

THATS the current cause of poverty. If you keep feeding those cultures the problem will only get worse.

Second, if you want to save money, go for where the most is wasted, the military industrial complex
Overpopulation by aggressive religions is the cause of war. Same solution will end poverty AND stop war.

But the universe remains our eternal enemy which is why we need to inhabit other worlds.

At tens of million of dollars per ton just to get anything to the Moon, heavy industry is not going to move there. The ores on the moon are poor - no hydro/geo-thermal processes to concentrate them. Nickel-iron maybe from meteorites, but just as nickel-iron; as an ore for anything else (and that is where the estimated huge amounts of space precious metals are, mixed at low concentrations) Ni-Fe is one of the most intractable.

Space stations and spacecraft, eh? Doing what? Servicing what economically viable activities? There aren't any. Perhaps you aren't counting the cost of establishing facilities in the cost of moon launches, none of which have an economic basis - the launch costs from the Moon are going to be horrendous.

"... Significant adverse effects of long-term weightlessness include muscle atrophy and deterioration of the skeleton (spaceflight osteopenia).[2] Other significant effects include a slowing of cardiovascular system functions, ... etc. etc.

Have any of you loons even thought about the dire health effects of low gravity to people you want to send permanently to Mars or the Moon?

Just noticed my past misedit;
In a previous post I said
"...muscle entropy, ..."
when that should have been
"...muscle atrophy, ..."
as that's the correct term for it and that's what I meant to say.
Sometimes "muscle entropy" is erroneously used to mean "muscle atrophy" even though that's the wrong term for it.

Not everyone is so selfish that they only think of themselves personally. When we say we, we mean humanity. Our future is either space colonization or extinction. It is not that space is too inhospitable, it is that Earth is too hospitable for our own good. We need to learn to thrive on nothing more than a vacuum, an energy source and dead rock. Long term survival will demand nothing less.

Our future is either space colonization or extinction. .
ShotmanMaslo

No, it isn't. It is always VASTLY cheaper easier and better in every way to fix the problems we create for ourselves on Earth than to run from them via space colonization. Wasting BILLIONS of $ on space colonization that could be MUCH better spent on fixing Earth-bound problems, such as pollution, poverty, etc, would, if anything, actually make us MORE likely to go extinct, not less! WASTING BILLIONS of $ would certainly make us all poorer via our own stupidity!

May 13, 2019
Space colonization is not going to alleviate any kind of population pressure on Earth. Anyone can do that math and figure that one out (x number of people, cost y amount of energy to get into space and t amount of dollars to do so (and homestead elsewhere))

The numbers look ludicrous very quickly.

Space colonies will be just that: A few people we send there and then they'll breed and fill up the colony themselves.

We need to cope with our own problems here on Earth. Seeing as it is the most hospitable planet possible to humans - if we can't do that then the chances for any colony out there is going to be minute.

if you want to work these shift hours
mining Moonian regolith
and be back at this Space Port within the hour
to bathe, relax in sumptuous surroundings in Earthly gravity
for
space ferries travelling at a 100 thousand miles an hour
will cover this sea of space
willl cover this 250 thousand miles

Our Space Port

This Rotating Space Port
solves this space travel
solves this departure and return at a stroke
solves this gravitation problem
no more are our space mariners entombed in tiny capsules
in tiny cramped non rotating spaces
in this vastnesses of infinite space
for as these Moonians
at the end of their shift, queue at the bus stop
for their ferry to arrive
for as this ferry departs
as it leaves port to sail this 250 thousand miles of sea
just as when it sails to Mars
this ferry begins to rotate
so as you step of this weightless moon
and take your seat
as this ferry leaves port
it begins to rotate
from the moment this ferry departs this Moonian regolith
to Our Space Port
normal Earthly gravity is restored

Our Space Port

This Rotating Space Port
could have already been built
by sending these giant launch rocket tanks
that launch the shuttle
by sending these tanks into orbit minus the shuttle
then assembling them in orbit
as from the first shuttle launch in 1981
the first tank could have been launched into orbit
that as these tanks increased in orbital number
with this convenience of this shuttle
from 1981 more conveniently assembled
into Our Space Port
so in the space of 10 years
as in the 1990s Our Space Port would have been already built
and the shuttle would have become obsolete
a museum piece to Our Space Port
as the shuttle disaster would have never happened
because, my friends
This, Our Space Port would have already been built these latest centuries
for the shuttle when it saw its damaged tiles
would have simply docked at one of the many ports on Our Space Port
For repairs

Our Space Port, the solution to all our problems in space

Our Space Port

This Rotating Space Port
is a collaborative Space Port
Our Space Port is for the whole world to share and use
for it requires Roubles
Trillions of Roubles
for the fore runner to Our Space Port
these Ruskies built their space station
we need these Ruskies
we need all these super powers to work as one
we need everyone to cease their pet space programs
all moon ventures have to cease
Russia China India Pakistan Australia Japan Britain America
have to combine all their Roubles
Trillions of Roubles
for to build
Our Space Port, for we have waited far, far too long
for when Our Space Port is built
all these super powers can resume their pet space programs
in the complete safety and convenience

Our Space Port, the solution to all our problems in space

No, I don't. I love looking up what the science says so I don't have to guess
So according to YOU atrophy is an unsurmountable condition that we'll never find a solution to, so according to YOU we're not going to mars.

But according to all the people who are spending billions to do just that, we most definitely are.

I think they're confident science is going to solve these problems despite what guessers like you think.
Wasting BILLIONS of $ on space colonization that could be MUCH better spent on fixing Earth-bound problems
-And what would you guess would be the solution to a civilization-ending impact, or engineered pandemic, or toba-scale eruption, or nuclear war? Once civilization collapses it may never return. Are you guessing that this wont ever happen? Or are you just ignoring the potential?

Some problems are unfixable. Some are inevitable. Colonization is the only way to increase the odds of survival.

May 13, 2019
Space colonies will be just that: A few people we send there and then they'll breed and fill up the colony themselves
I almost posted this yesterday. It makes me queezy that aa is beginning to think like otto. But then
We need to cope with our own problems here on Earth. Seeing as it is the most hospitable planet possible to humans - if we can't do that then the chances for any colony out there is going to be minute
-so I feel better.

We currently inhabit many areas of this planet that would be uninhabitable without tech. Think of the leap that industrialization brought the species... compare the pyramids to Manhattan or the interstate highway system.

Robotics will initiate a similar sea change. Cubic miles carved beneath the Martian surface filled with air, water, fuel. Amazing what robotic tunnelers and processors working 24/7/365 can accomplish, completely autonomous, free labor. A few $billion to get them there. Like building a new Levittown.

May 13, 2019
So according to YOU atrophy is an unsurmountable condition that we'll never find a solution to,
No. I never implied this. Of course science will find a solution one day. But in this case not in any year soon and certainly not soon enough for said planned missions.
so according to YOU we're not going to mars.
No. I never implied this. I don't believe I have the power to stop some people do very stupid things.
Wasting BILLIONS of $ on space colonization that could be MUCH better spent on fixing Earth-bound problems

-And what would you guess would be the solution to a civilization-ending impact, or engineered pandemic, or toba-scale eruption, or nuclear war?
Out of those things that can be prevented, prevention is the solution. Out of those things that cannot, wasting vast amounts of $ on space rather than spend it where it counts, which is here on Earth where the problem is, will only make it more likely that we go extinct.

May 13, 2019
We currently inhabit many areas of this planet that would be uninhabitable without tech.
So you think it wise to deliberately massively expensively sent some people to some extremely hostile places where there isn't even a natural breathable atmosphere rather than spend it on something ACTUALLY GOOD? How will that help the rest of us here on Earth?

May 13, 2019
So you think it wise to deliberately massively expensively sent some people to some extremely hostile places where there isn't even a natural breathable atmosphere rather than spend it on something ACTUALLY GOOD? How will that help the rest of us here on Earth?

We are poisoning our own atmosphere with CO2 as we speak, if you havent noticed. A breathable atmosphere is a luxury that we cannot afford to be dependent on long term. Technology developed for sustainable living in space may yet turn out to be crucial for Earth, too.

However, even if it wont help us down here on Earth, expanding the range of our species beyond this planet is much more important than survival of you or me personally.

Space colonies will be just that: A few people we send there and then they'll breed and fill up the colony themselves.

It wont be just any few people. It will be the very elite of humanity, then further refined by the hardships of conquering the final frontier. Any civilization that this process will spawn will be surely extraordinary. This alone is enough justification to go out there.

The Saying Use It or Lose It

Is Muscular Atrophy
there
is no cure for muscular atrophy
it is not a disease
it is not a condition
come to that it is not a problem
for when the first muscles emerged in fish
so emerged muscular atrophy
and before anyone says fish their weightless
no their not
they are experiencing the same gravitational attraction as land lubbers
their muscles follow the same rule use it or lose it
as for example sharks swim continuously or they sink
as all the other fish are continually on the move to avoid being eaten
so all fishy muscles are continually getting exercise
but their spine is not weight bearing
so their skeleton has atrophied to the minimum amount of bone this fishy tail requires
whereas human stand up right
where Moonian backbones will atrophy to the minimum bone for to stand up right and their muscles will weaken proportionally
with no medical intervention
The human body will atrophy to live in Moonian gravity

May 13, 2019
Despite your worries we can we live permanently in Moonians 1/6g

When we start digging thise Moonian regolith
our 12stone male body is 12stone to live in 1g
these 12stones are not required to live in 1/6g
so with just the daily exercise of living and working in 1/6g
our bodies will atrophy
we will lose these 12stones
we will be 7 or 8stones or whatever nature has decreed is necessary to live in 1/6g
we will not be weak we will be strong
as our bodies have atrophied as nature intended
as
when we go back home
go back to earth
our bodies will increase bone mass will increase muscle mass
for over a period of a year are bodies will adapt to this change in gravitation
but
a word of advise
do not do this regularly as it takes months and months
it is not healthy
for when our body has adapted to 1/6g
it is best to live out the remainder of your life as a Moonian
because
If you go home 1g is too great a strain for your heart as you will succumb to a heart attack

May 13, 2019
Our Space Port

This Rotating Space Port
for a solution to this worldly advise

A word of advise
do not do this regularly as it takes months and months
it is not healthy
for when our body has adapted to 1/6g
it is best to live out the remainder of your life as a Moonian
because
If you go home 1g is too great a strain for your heart as you will succumb to a heart attack

The solution to this wanting to go home
while also working daily on this Moonian regolith

Is Our Space Port This Rotating Space Port provides this daily gravity we need
as if we receive our daily dose as medically prescribed
we will always be able to go home
To visit our loved ones!

May 13, 2019
For the human body to adapt to 1/6g

Is humanly possible
Nature has evolved our Musculoskeletal pacifically with gravitational variation in mind
as Martian and Moonian regolith is below earthly gravity
this is only chance
as there is a greater chance the next planet
the right planet
this next heaven on earthly planet
will be multiples of earthly gravity
as we ponder on the possibilities if we allow our bodies to adapt to 1/6g for to never return home
as with every bound we float in 1/6g
this next heaven on earthly planet
more than likely could be 6g
we will have difficulty standing
so we will have to go through months and months as our bodies adapt to 6g
then we will be able to go home
as with every bound we will float in 1g
but
A word of advise
do not do this regularly
it is not healthy
for when our body has adapted to back to 1g
it is best to live out the remainder of your life as an earthling
because if we go back to 6g
6g will give you a heart attack

There is a moral here some where

If this planet is heaven on earth as planet earth is
and our bodies can adapt to this heavenly gravitation
there is no question occupy this planet in these billions
but
if this planet is hell on earth as Mars and this Moon are
do not occupy these planets
because
our bodies will adapt
and for eternity we will be trapped on these hellish planets
unable to escape
trapped for eternity
these failed planets will be our Alcatraz planetary prison cells
till we shuffle of our poor demented tortured mortal coils
A fate even Beelzebub would not wish on any of his souls

May 13, 2019
The moral question

Our Space Port
This Rotating Space Port is the answer to humans working on this Moonian and Martian regolith
so as to prevent our bodies adapting
we give our bodies their daily dose of gravitational albeit rotational
then we can work on these failed planets to our hearts content
for we can build a second Space Port orbiting this Martian planet
as our Martians can return every hour to this Martians orbiting Rotating Space Port
to bathe in hot water relax in sumptuous surroundings in earthly gravity catching up on events at the earthly orbiting Rotating Space Port
so while we relax and sleep in 1g when we wake up
we can spend time working in near zero gravity with no ill effects
as whatever disaster occur on this Martian regolith
Just a few miles above are heads is the security and comfort of our Rotating Martian Space Port
that is fully equipped with a constant stream of space ferries bringing supplies and fuel and space tourists
To view mars for the day

May 13, 2019
No. I never implied this
So youre pompous AND dishonest.
Of course science will find a solution one day. But in this case not in any year soon and certainly not soon enough for said planned missions
-AND youre still guessing. Meanwhile very serious preparations are being made to go to mars and to stay. And Im guessing they dont give a shit what you think.
It wont be just any few people. It will be the very elite of humanity, then further refined by the hardships of conquering the final frontier
I dont think 'elite' is the right word. How about most capable? Most qualified?

How about 'fittest'?

But this is not much different from taking the smartest out of indigenous cultures and sending them off to STEM universities, and encouraging them to propagate.

MR166
Onions... I think that we have a real spending problem
I agree MR. But you miss my point (as usual). Do you Trump acolytes - not repeatedly assert that the economy is going gang busters under Trump - and that he has single handedly solved all of our economic woes?

May 14, 2019
"I agree MR. But you miss my point (as usual). Do you Trump acolytes - not repeatedly assert that the economy is going gang busters under Trump - and that he has single handedly solved all of our economic woes?"

Well President Trump is at least heading the ship in the right direction. One person cannot correct the disaster of giving away US manufacturing jobs to other nations for 50 years overnight. He is 100% correct in his claim that the US was victimized by poor trade deals.

May 14, 2019
Onions there were/still are whole departments in the US government helping our corporations move production offshore. This decimated our big manufacturing cities and helped turn them into welfare capitals.

May 14, 2019
You just can't understand the point being made MR. You trump acolytes jump up and down - and declare that Trump is a miracle worker - and is solving all the problems of MAGA. Then you predict
In a few short years when the financial collapse of the US occurs
And lack of critical thinking skills - makes MAGA heads unable to recognize the massive contradictions in such position.

Centrifugal Force
rrwillsj> Imitation gravity always, pushes, accelerates.
Imitation gravity always has an on/off switch.
Cut the power input?
Welcome to momentum.
When momentum slackens?
Welcome to inertia!

Rrwillsj, as centrifugal force is linear momentum enforced to a circular path
is just a simple thruster exercise
as you walk through the hatch of Our Space Port where our space ferry is docked
for as the space ferry undocks it begins a linear path
as all the space ferry does
is use its thrusters to continue a circular path as it translates to rotating this space ferry longitudinally along its axis
for, rrwillsj space travel to continue apace
this space ferry has sufficient fuel to sail to mars and back
because, rrwillsj
just in case the fuel dumps on the sea to mars are dry
as
Rrwillsj, we would not want are space ferry stranded millions of miles in this infinite empty vacuous vacuum
Would we now!
