Apple CEO Tim Cook explains why he spoke out about immigration

Apple CEO Tim Cook elaborated on earlier remarks critical of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy, noting many Apple employees likely went through a similar situation experienced by families trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

"We have a lot of immigrants that work at Apple," Cook said at the Fortune CEO Initiative in San Francisco Monday. More than 300 are part of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), he said. "I want to stand up for them."

Last week, on a trip to Ireland, Cook told the Irish Times that the separation of children from their families at the U.S./Mexico border was "inhumane" and that Apple would be working with the government to be a "constructive voice" on the issue.

He was among a handful of tech executives voicing concerns about the Trump administration policy that's separated over 2,000 children from parents or guardians detained for crossing the illegally. The response from the broader business community has been largely channeled through trade groups as attempt to navigate a highly charged political climate.

Speaking to the conference of business executives, which was live-streamed, Cook said CEOs should speak out when they see something that isn't consistent with their company's values. "Think about if you don't, then you're in the 'appalling silence of the good people' category," he said. "This is something I've never wanted to be a part of."

"Ultimately that is what human rights is all about," he said. "It's about treating people with dignity and respect, at the end of the day."

They are not immigrants until they become legal.

Jun 26, 2018
@JamesG

1: They're always humans, and human rights are universal.

2: Trump's policies are not aimed at illegal immigration. They are clearly aimed at _Latino_ immigration.

3: Go to hell, alt-right scum. Your post history shows that either your brain has been replaced with fox news, or you're a paid shill. I'm not sure which is more pathetic.

America is a hateful place, the cradle of Nazi ideology, the headquarters of slavery, place of origin of pornography, nuclear weapons, and most of the serious diseases of the Western world.

So much that they do not even consider racism a vice, but they try to stitch it to conservative politics..... ignorant is what ignorant does.

All we all know that most white American males are either suicidal or sterile or both. That is the real core of their recent surge in racial hatred.... that they can not compete with anybody anymore, not the Jews, not the Chinese, not the blacks, not the Hispanics, not the Indians, not the Muslims...... even when 'rich and famous' they run crying into the dark to shoot themselves.

Jun 27, 2018
The Trumpster fire had to do something-- *anything*-- to get the attention off the Muller investigation. Looks like it's working. Pretty disgusting.

Jun 27, 2018
1: human rights are universal
But constitutionall rights do not extend beyond the border. Which is why we are building a wall.
2: Trump's policies are not aimed at illegal immigration. They are clearly aimed at _Latino_ immigration
"Since 2000, legal immigrants to the United States number approximately 1,000,000 per year..."

If you all truly cared you would be trying to increase the ways people can get here legally.

But you're not, because you dont.
3: Go to hell, alt-right scum. Your post history shows that either your brain has been replaced with fox news, or you're a paid shill. I'm not sure which is more pathetic
Have you read the news? Your politicians are beginning to lose all across the country, and the supreme court just upheld the travel ban. Support for trump has never been higher than it is now.

This is directly due to what people like you have said and done since he got elected.

You cant LIE and get away with it for long.

Otto, you forgot I was talking to your sock puppet.

Jun 27, 2018
constitutionall rights do not extend beyond the border
The Constitution extends to every action of the government. That's why it's called a "constitution;" it specifies the government's structure and limits. Many of the limits are in the first ten Amendments to the Constitution; most people call this the "Bill of Rights." It requires freedoms of speech, religion, the Press, assembly, and so forth. It's quite explicit and nowhere does it mention that the government can do things outside the borders that it can't inside them. Only by a declaration of war, which must be passed by Congress and signed by the President, can these limitations be set aside; this is because war is an existential threat. Apparently you've forgotten this, or were never taught it.

So have we declared war on brown babies? Because if not, these apparently are illegal acts. And that forms its own existential threat.

Jun 27, 2018
It's quite explicit and nowhere does it mention that the government can do things outside the borders that it can't inside them
Dont be silly. People in Canada are not guaranteed the right to bear arms under our constitution. People in Mexico are not guaranteed freedom of speech or freedom from search and seizure under our constitution.

And nowhere does it say that auslanders have the RIGHT to come here illegally. Our laws only say we have the RIGHT to throw them out if they do.

And despite what da scheide the racist says, this applies to all illegals no matter what color they are or where they come from.

Here's a pic of ottos sockpuppet army

Trump's policies are not aimed at illegal immigration. They are clearly aimed at _Latino_ immigration
That's funny, because

"The US Supreme Court has upheld a ban by President Donald Trump on travel to the US from seven countries: North Korea, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and Venezuela."

-Hispanics seem to be a distinct minority.

Jun 28, 2018
People in Canada are not guaranteed the right to bear arms under our constitution. People in Mexico are not guaranteed freedom of speech or freedom from search and seizure under our constitution.
Actually, they're guaranteed that *our government* will not conduct illegal search and seizure against them or abrogate their right to bear arms without due process. What their own governments do is governed by their own laws. For example we don't confiscate rifles brought in checked baggage by Canadians to go deer hunting in the US. But I wouldn't expect you're bright enough to get that subtle distinction, @TheGOO. After all you aren't bright enough to understand that the US Constitution doesn't constrain other governments.

Teh stupid, it burnz.

Jun 28, 2018
Let me try this again. The US Constitution doesn't talk about citizens; it says "Congrefs shall make no law." It only applies to our government. It doesn't apply to people; it applies to the government. That's why it's called a "constitution."

Like I said, stupid.

Jun 28, 2018
BTW looks like Kennedy is retiring. Guess his gag reflex is coming into play. That yours isn't says everything I need to know about you, @TheGOO.

Jun 28, 2018
Your error is in thinking the US Constitution applies to the people. It does not. It applies to the US government. This error is quite common and not very smart.

Jun 29, 2018
Actually, they're guaranteed that *our government* will not conduct illegal search and seizure against them or abrogate their right to bear arms without due process. What their own governments do is governed by their own laws. For example we don't confiscate rifles brought in checked baggage by Canadians to go deer hunting in the US
Those are their laws, not ours. Similarly, Mexico has laws governing treatment of refugees in their country. Those refugees arent governed by our laws, including due process, until they cross our border. Which is why we are going to build a wall to keep them from crossing it.

Which is what I said in my original post, which you misconstrued as usual.

Jun 29, 2018
Your error is in thinking the US Constitution applies to the people. It does not. It applies to the US government. This error is quite common and not very smart
"During the ratification process, several state legislatures expressed concern over the lack of protection of individual liberties. In response, the first Congress passed twelve amendments to the Constitution, ten of these which were ratified by the states and became known collectively as the Bill of Rights."

-Specifically, the rights of people, not the govt.

Look, I know youd rather make shit up than try to find refs. Because you cant.

No biggie I appreciate the practice.

Jun 29, 2018
I'd say after this monumental cluster fuck there won't be any immigration bill in this congress. So much for the border wall.

Jun 29, 2018
Oh, and I hear Harley-Davidson is moving to Europe.

Jun 29, 2018
And after the unions got gutted and the cluster fuck immigration "policy" got upheld I wouldn't count on even a single Democratic vote for any judge's confirmation appointed by this administration ever again.

Jun 29, 2018
No HD is not moving anywhere. They were already going to build more bikes elsewhere because they are selling more bikes elsewhere.
unions got gutted
Unions are obsolete. People should not be forced to contribute to unions that donate entirely to the democratic party.
I wouldn't count on even a single Democratic vote for any judge's confirmation appointed by this administration ever again
Their votes arent needed to get conservative judges confirmed.

Jun 29, 2018
Their votes arent needed to get conservative judges confirmed.
Actually they are. 60 votes are required.

You're lying again.

Jun 29, 2018
"A simple majority vote is required to confirm or to reject a nominee. Prior to 2017, a successful filibuster threat could add the requirement of a supermajority of 60 needed in favor of cloture, which would allow debate to end and force a final vote on confirmation."

"Last year, Senate Republicans followed suit and eliminated the filibuster on Supreme Court nominations, meaning that Trump's pick will only need to clear a 50-vote threshold to be confirmed, assuming Vice President Pence casts the tie-breaking vote."

-You NEED to research before opening your mouth. Or start watching the proper newsfeeds.

Jun 29, 2018
mqr , nobody responds ? lol , death to the infidel ! muzzie solution : kill anyone who disagrees , same as nazi , stalin solution .

Jun 29, 2018
Well, you can count on it being the same after you lose the majority in November, then, until the bench is balanced.

Jun 29, 2018
"Democrats are heading toward some big losses in this fall's midterm Senate races, polls say..."

-and odds keep improving (for republucans)

Jun 29, 2018
Now it turns out that the son of the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court is Justin Kennedy, who was the global head of Deutche Bank's real estate capital markets division. That's not merely the bank, but the division of that bank, that loaned Donald Trump over a billion US dollars to finance his real estate projects. When no other bank would do so due to Trump's numerous bankruptcies and other high risk factors.

Isn't that nice and cozy?

http://www.busine...s-2018-6

Jun 29, 2018
You want cozy?

"Up to 40 state Democratic parties could be implicated in an alleged scheme to illegally funnel some $84 million to Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, according to a new report.

"A federal lawsuit says the Clinton team and the Democratic National Committee went around campaign finance laws by pouring money into state parties that then sent the funds back to the DNC to help Clinton"

Jun 29, 2018
$84 million is peanuts. A billion dollars is twelve times that. And The FEC didn't see fit to do anything about it. And the FEC has moved to dismiss the case due to lack of jurisdiction. That was last Friday.

Finally, election campaign financing is one thing; personal business financing is another. But I wouldn't expect you'd want to admit that.

Oh, and the main lawyer for the plaintiff, Dan Backer, has just filed a notice of change of address yesterday. Gee, wonder if someone bought him a new house (wink wink nudge nudge)? Is that how that works?

Jun 29, 2018
Meanwhile, is "butbutbutt they'sns doin it two" all you've got?

Jun 29, 2018
And of course "they'sns" ain't doing a billion dollars in loans no one else would give them. Just how far does this go? We already have the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court taking handouts for his kid.

Jun 30, 2018
I mean, hey, this guy is supposed to be a capitalist. Looks more like a loanalist to me. Just sayin'.

No wonder he doesn't show his tax returns. He doesn't want anyone to know how far he is from being a millionaire.

Jul 01, 2018
election campaign financing is one thing; personal business financing is another
-Of course. Business is business. US citizens do business with Russians all the time.

But Russians funneling money into the Clinton foundation money laundering apparatus is treason.

"the gifts of $145 million to the Clinton Foundation, and the $500,000 fee to Bill for a single speech, by individuals involved in a deal that required Hillary Clinton's approval."

"The Hill reports that the FBI in 2009 had collected substantial evidence — eyewitnesses backed by documents — of money-laundering, blackmail and bribery by Russian nuclear officials, all aimed at growing "Vladimir Putin's atomic-energy business inside the United States" in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act."

-Direct evidence of actual crimes under investigation, as opposed to 'well maybe it was possible, he got a loan while he was a private citizen to do -what?

To do what exactly herr scheide? Win?

Jul 01, 2018
Russians funneling money into the Clinton foundation money laundering apparatus
You're lying again. And trying the "butbutbutt they'sns doned it too!!!11!!one" meme again. Which doesn't work any better the second time than the first.

Since you don't seem to be getting it, I'll put it all in caps this time: A BILLION DOLLARS. TAX FREE BECAUSE IT'S A LOAN. I won't ask if you get it; you don't want to.

Jul 01, 2018
You know, one thing you guys have never explained - if the Russians colluded with trump, how exactly did it get him elected?

"His campaign committee spent about $238.9 million through mid-October, compared with $450.6 million by Clinton's. That equals about $859,538 spent per Trump electoral vote, versus about $1.97 million spent per Clinton electoral vote."

-So it wasnt money. Was it lies?

"Russia's social media efforts in 2016 were not just false but inflammatory... What neither side could have known is that Russia trolls were encouraging both sides to battle in the streets and create division between real Americans,"

-Nope, only the truth if anything.

So HOW exactly did the Russians hand trump the election???

BTW 'collusion' is not a legal term. It is meaningless. Certainly not a crime.

Oh hey tell your mom otto says hi-

Jul 01, 2018
Until you address the obvious facts like A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE you're still lying. And I only address the first lie in a troll post. It's my policy.

Your butt-buddies are attempting to subvert the US Supreme Court.

And nobody named Clinton ever got A BILLION DOLLARS. So stop lying.

Jul 01, 2018
A BILLION DOLLARS. TAX FREE BECAUSE IT'S A LOAN. I won't ask if you get it; you don't want to
SO WHAT? Do I have to find 1000s of other private citizens from around the world who routinely get loans from foreign banks?

"There has never actually been any evidence that Deutsche Bank is a conduit for Russian financing of Donald Trump's business activities. There's no logical reason why it should be either, nor is there any logical reason why if there is such Russian financing it might be a problem today."

and

"A decade back, when the Deutsche loans were taken out, Trump was a real estate developer looking for finance in the middle of a property bust. There was absolutely no indication at all that he was ever going to be anything but that so the idea of there being a strategic decision to back him for future political gain is extraordinary in itself."

Jul 01, 2018
Until you address the obvious facts like A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE you're still lying
Schneib. I'm going to say this once again, calmly and quietly. I post excerpts from reputable sources. If they are lies, they are not MY lies.

And tax-free? As opposed to what? A gift? What???
Your butt-buddies are attempting to subvert the US Supreme Court
How??? And I detest your gray slur, racist bigot.

Jul 01, 2018
A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE. Do you think the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court could be subverted by a slice of that?

Nothing more to be said here.

Jul 01, 2018
Yeah as usual you haven't SAID anything. In contrast, Russians GAVE bill and his foundation millions. TAX FREE.

Jul 01, 2018
I'[ve said A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE. And you still haven't answered. All you got is "butbutbutt they'sns doned it too" and it's all lies. "They'sns" did what they're supposed to do while the son of the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court raked off his chunk of the interest from A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE.

And none of it was spent on a portrait.

Jul 01, 2018
Do you think the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court could be subverted by a slice of that?
No. To do what? Any evidence that funds from a 10yo private business loan were diverted to bribe the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court to do... WHAT???

Jul 01, 2018
The evidence is posted above.

You're lying again, @TheGOO:

http://www.busine...s-2018-6

So basically the price for a Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court is the interest on A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE.

Jul 01, 2018
said A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE. And you still haven't answered
But I did little scheide. A 10yo totally legit business loan. No connection to trump winning the election. NONE

Where'd you get 1B?

Jul 01, 2018
But you still haven't answered.

Which means you're still lying.

A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE.

Now stop lying.

Jul 01, 2018
So you're saying that trump bribed Kennedys son to get his 82yo father to retire.

Is that what you're saying?

"Kennedy is the most senior Associate Justice on the Court ... that the average age of retirement for justices was 78.7."

-I think trump got ripped off.

This is a very good indication of just how DESPERATE you people are.

Like marching in 100 degree heat to keep families together when that already happened.

"Well hey! Let's still go march anyway! I dont want to waste this very excellent vagina speech! Girl power!!!"

Jul 01, 2018
A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE. All the Trumpster fire had to do was get elected so he could pardon everyone.

Or so they thought.

And apparently you did too. How is this less corrupt than anything else that might have happened, Hillary or anyone else?

Just askin'.

Jul 01, 2018
A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE
So does your mom call you her little ape or her little parrot? And no, ape in this case is not a slur only an insult.

Jul 01, 2018
Still no answer; you just attack my family members.

I'll reply in kind: you smell like your mother.

And still no answer for A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE.

Just a reminder: http://www.busine...s-2018-6

Jul 01, 2018
And it wasnt 1B. That's definitely your own lie.

"The bank's $300 million loan to Trump"

Jul 01, 2018
A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE A BILLION DOLLARS TAX FREE
10YO BUSINESS LOAN 10YO BUSINESS LOAN 10YO BUSINESS LOAN

What an idiot you are. I blame your mom.

"In a letter to five House Democrats, Germany's largest bank said it was barred from sharing information about Trump's finances due to U.S. privacy laws."

-It's like me saying that da scheide is a russian agent specifically because I cant prove hes not.

"Argument from ignorance (Latin: argumentum ad ignorantiam), also known as appeal to ignorance (in which ignorance represents "a lack of contrary evidence") is a fallacy in informal logic. It asserts that a proposition is true because it has not yet been proven false or a proposition is false because it has not yet been proven true."

Oh hey

"Tesla (TSLA) increased its warehouse loan agreement with Deutsche Bank and other lenders by $500 million to $1.1 billion, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday."

-Fishy. Maybe musk will be the next scotus judge?

Jul 01, 2018
This is pointless. You're not gonna get it ever. This is corruption on a billion dollar scale. And it involves the Supreme Court. 'Nuff said. So much for "Crooked Hillary."

Jul 01, 2018
You're right. Let's get back to the article...

"On April 30, 2013, Apple Inc. (the "Company") entered into an underwriting agreement (the "Underwriting Agreement") with Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Deutsche Bank Securities Inc."

-Uh oh. More tax free stuff from nazis.

Might I remind you also of the lucrative NASA contracts musk received post-tax-free-loan? OBVIOUSLY deutschland money launderers provided that $1,1BILLION for palm greasing on industrial scales.

Dont you agree?

Jul 01, 2018
Musk doesn't do real estate; he does manufacturing. And he's in no way connected with the Supreme Court. And he's never gone bankrupt.

The Clintons didn't get A BILLION DOLLARS.

And you're lying again. http://money.cnn....dex.html Deutche Bank was doing the Russians' money laundering for them. And if you think that's all check this out: http://www.newswe...780.html

Sooooo, whatcha gonna do when Muller subpoenas the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court and his son? Because you have to know that's coming.

Musk doesn't do real estate; he does manufacturing
So?And he's in no way connected with the Supreme Court How do you know?
And he's never gone bankrupt
SO WHAT?

Yeah only a few 100 million sob. In return for 20% of our uranium.

Jul 01, 2018
BTW re musk bankruptcy

"Tesla tsla has teetered on the edge before. Since it was founded in 2003, the company has had a creative approach to financing. Musk has personally contributed millions of dollars to the company, and has helped get it out of sticky situations in other ways. In 2008, for example, Musk put together a $40 million debt deal that closed on Christmas Eve, just hours before the company would have run out of money."

-And where pray tell did that money come from?

Deutsche bank???

Jul 01, 2018
Oh and BTW I note that the Clintons have never gone bankrupt either.

On Earth.

After you lied about Deutche Bank's connection with Russians, @TheGOOn, I don't see any reason anyone rational would believe anything you say.

Jul 01, 2018
BTW
The Clintons didn't get A BILLION DOLLARS
No, trump didn't get a billion dollars. His company did, to finance specific projects and activities.

HOWEVER

"The Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation's tax returns from the year 2014 show that despite the organization's classification as a charitable organization, in fact most of the profits went to employees, and only 3% were donated to the various causes the foundation claims to support.

"In the 65-page 2014 form, the organization's total revenue was listed as $177, 804,612.00, with the total grants to charity amounting to $5,160,385.00."

-You know, chartered flights, entertainment expenses, fine art in the employees lounge, and of course graft for judges, election officials, news CEOs etc.

Jul 01, 2018
After you lied about Deutche Bank's connection with Russians, @TheGOOn
Provide evidence that my ref is in error. Hint: a link is not evidence.

"the FBI and a handful of U.S. attorneys have been conducting a joint investigation into the Clinton Foundation for possible financial crimes and influence peddling."

"Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute, detailed how decisions by the State Department under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seemed to systematically benefit organizations and individuals that gave millions to the Clinton Foundation and paid former President Bill Clinton millions to give speeches. The appearance of a pay-for-play system and even outright graft during Hillary's six years at State couldn't be ignored."

-Well, except by people like de scheide.

Jul 01, 2018
Clinton's bankrupt never ever
"Less than a week before the Clintons left the White House in 2001, they bought a replacement house 15 minutes down the road for $2.85 million. It was a pricy purchase for a couple who had more than $1 million in legal debt and a net worth of nearly nothing at the time. But the Clintons had little reason to worry—they were poised to make a fortune. Over the next 15 years, they earned more than $230 million before taxes."

-44% of which was earned through speaking engagements to many friends and supporters... including the Russians of course.

Jul 01, 2018

In total, $145 million went to the Clinton Foundation from interests linked to Uranium One, which was acquired by the Russian government nuclear agency Rosatum."

"If Donald Trump had given a $500,000 speech paid for by a Kremlin bank, and his private foundation had accepted $145 million from Vladimir Putin-linked oligarchs and their Western business partners, do you think that his critics would be insisting there was nothing to see here?"

-Well DO you muschimann?

This is going to be interesting: subpoenaing the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. A lot of people will be watching as you try to worm your way out of this one.

Jul 01, 2018
Maybe Kennedy would like to avoid being named Most Corrupt Supreme Court Justice Evar.

Now we know why Muller is taking so long. You don't indict the Supreme Court justice without incontrovertible evidence.
