Wireless charging and discharging for electric vehicles

In the future, a wireless charging system will allow electric cars not only to charge their batteries, but also to feed energy back into the power grid, helping to stabilize it. The cost-effective charging system achieves high levels of efficiency across the whole power range, from 400 watts to 3.6 kilowatts, while the car and the charging coil can be up to 20 centimeters apart. Fraunhofer researchers are presenting their prototype from September 15 to 18, 2015 at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt (Hall 4, Booth D33).

When it's pouring rain, a driver who has to connect a thick, unwieldy cable between their electric car and a charge spot is sure to get soaked to the skin. But sometimes there's no alternative – the battery is empty. Using wireless inductive systems to charge the car is much more convenient. This involves transmitting energy through the air, or, more precisely, through a time-varying magnetic field. The technology is essentially based around two , with one built into a road, a parking space or a garage, and the other fitted to the underbody of the car. In conjunction with suitable capacitors, these coils form a sort of resonant "antenna system for energy transfer." The nearer the two coils are to each other, the more efficiently the energy is transferred.

Highly efficient, bidirectional charging

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES in Kassel have come up with a more cost-effective design for such inductive charging systems. "We deliberately use standard components that are already available on the mass market," explains Marco Jung, deputy head of the converter technology department at Fraunhofer IWES. In addition, the researchers use coil systems that require fewer ferrite sheets. The sheets are needed to control and shield the magnetic field and are very heavy on account of the iron oxide they contain. They are also expensive. Reducing the amount of ferrite material used further decreases the weight and cost of the coils.

Another advantage is the specially designed power electronics and coil systems, which means that the system works very efficiently even when the coil in the car is some 20 centimeters away from the coil in the road. "Even with an air gap of 20 centimeters, we achieve an efficiency of between 93 and 95 percent – and do so across the entire power range, from 400 watts to 3.6 kilowatts," explains Dr. René Marklein, project manager at Fraunhofer IWES. "Comparable systems achieve that kind of efficiency only over shorter distances, which limits their usefulness for cars with larger ground clearance."

Whereas the coils are built into the road and the underbody of the car, the charging system is carried in the vehicle and contains the electronics and connections for various charging cables. The scientists have designed the system so as to give drivers maximum flexibility: it not only permits inductive charging, but also has a one-phase and a three-phase power connection thanks to a multi-functional system concept. This allows drivers to also charge their vehicle at ordinary power outlets and charge spots.

As well as charging up the batteries, the system can also discharge them. Among other advantages, this can help to stabilize the general . How does that work? When the sun is shining all day or strong winds are sweeping the country, solar cells and wind turbines often supply more energy than is needed at the time. If too much electricity was fed into the grid, however, the voltage could rise and might even destroy electrical devices. In favorable weather conditions, grid operators therefore throttle the output that solar and wind plants feed into power grids. But if were used as a sort of buffer, the surplus electricity could be stored there temporarily and then fed back into the grid when the sun clouds over or the winds die down, further increasing the proportion of renewables in the energy mix.

The scientists are presenting their wireless inductive transmission system at the IAA International Motor Show. In addition, Fraunhofer researchers are exhibiting further electromobility solutions, including a powertrain with an air-cooled wheel hub motor, a lightweight construction energy pack, and high-performance storage modules.

Other Fraunhofer wireless charging projects

Charging coils at license plates

Usually, induction plates or coils are integrated into parking bays. Because they carry high currents, they heat up and can pose a danger to any objects and animals that might be underneath the car. For example they could injure cats, who often like to sit under cars. For this reason, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology IISB in Erlangen have developed an alternative to the induction plate in the ground that involves supplying the car with energy at its front end near the license plate. The technology is based around a charge spot that cars can park right next to, leaving only a small gap. This allows a very cost-effective and light-
weight to be implemented – one that weighs only 3 kilograms at a charging capacity of 3.7 kilowatts. If a car brushes against the charge spot too strongly, it folds away, preventing the vehicle from getting damaged.

Charging on the go

Electric cars have only a limited range. In the future, however, it will be possible to charge cars while they are moving: researchers at the Fraunhofer Institutes for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM and for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems IVI have constructed a 25-meter-long test route along which coils have been set into the road. The project was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and two further project partners. It was a success: the FreccO demonstrator, a sports converted into an electric vehicle, managed to travel the strip at a moderate speed while simultaneously charging its battery.

Not new. But useful. All electrical power in an A/C system is passed through magnetic fields.

In the late 1980's EPRI had a bus set up with this, I think in Santa Barbara or around there. I just assumed most electric vehicles stored in garages would have this kind of system eventually.

Good article, but I don't buy this particular argument:
When it's pouring rain, a driver who has to connect a thick, unwieldy cable between their electric car and a charge spot is sure to get soaked to the skin.

There is such an invention as a roof (most gas stations have them)...and when handling electrical appliances it's probably a good idea to have them somewhat protected from the elements.

I've been thinking about this stabilizing the grid via car batteries. I used to be opposed to this (because it could mean your battery is empty when you need it)...but the actual use case is simply to give backup powerplants (gas turbines) time to come online. After which the power would be fed right into the car again. So like with smart appliances you could set a timer by which you need a full charge (e.g. when you want to leave the house in the morning) and make your car avaialble as a buffer system until slightly before then (giving enough time to recharge).

Sep 01, 2015
AA, PG&E and BMW are working on a system to do just that in California.

Sep 01, 2015
So let me get this straight, your all electric vehicle has been charged be solar power or wind somehow. Now while you are innocently sitting somewhere your vehicle is discharging it's batteries to support the grid. Ooops, your mother who lives 50 miles away has slipped and broke something or other and you cannot get there because your car has given away your power. Electric cars powering the grid makes little or no sense.

Sep 01, 2015
Ooops, your mother who lives 50 miles away has slipped and broke something

That's a non-argument. All batteries from all cars would be used (which means that none will be discharged a lot)...and within a few minutes gas powered powerplants are online to take the load.

This is not intended as deep storage/critical reserve. Just as a very short term use to tide over bumps in the grid.

Sep 01, 2015
Ah, how silly of me the solution is simple. Each vehicle will be required by Utopian law to carry 25% extra battery capacity that can only be accessed by the grid. This is kind of like the hidden tax AKA rate subsidies.

Oh yea 100,000,000s of KMs of charging roadways will not be a problem at all. When will this Green Hyperbole end?!!!!!!!

When it's pouring rain, a driver who has to connect a thick, unwieldy cable between their electric car and a charge spot is sure to get soaked to the skin..

Dawwww If only there was something that could shelter the hapless person from rain... like a roof or something.

It's so sad that this is such a new idea. All those gas guzzlers just fill themselves up. You don't need some thick unwieldy tube that you MUST hold onto for 10 minutes while an explosive liquid pollution is pumped into your car or anything.
/sarcasm

So get yourself a roof or an umbrella, use those 2 seconds to plug in the WAY smaller cable than a gas line and move along.

OR... Park inside like most people with garages do.

Honestly you'll spend less time plugging in your vehicle than most people will spend unlocking their front door.

Sep 01, 2015
Oh yea 100,000,000s of KMs of charging roadways will not be a problem at all. When will this Green Hyperbole end?!!!!!!!

So what?

There are all ready 100,000,000s of km's of transmission lines. 100,000,000's of kms of concrete and re bar that all must be maintained, millions of gas stations who need daily deliveries of toxic fuel every day at excessive costs.

Do you have a point?

Who built the gasoline and diesel distribution system with so many negative Nancie's like you telling them how much work it would be?

Sep 01, 2015
"Honestly you'll spend less time plugging in your vehicle than most people will spend unlocking their front door."

That is exactly why this whole article is just a bunch of green hyperbole.

But it's not. It is the way it will be done at home. You may never have to "fill up" your car again.

"But it's not. It is the way it will be done at home. You may never have to "fill up" your car again."

No Bozo, it is about your need to actually plug in your EV vs drive it to within 10 inches of a charging pad. OMG I might actually have to exit my car and do something as proletarian as plug it in to the charging station!!!!! Well THAT is not acceptable!

All electrical power in an A/C system is passed through magnetic fields.

That must be senior engineer talk so everybody will know the senior engineer knows what he is talking about. And it might have worked too, except no engineer who works with electrical stuffs would ever have said some thing as silly and un-engineer-like as that.

Tell the trut Cher, you got to be pretending to be that silly. And in case you are not just pretending to be silly, you better hope ol Eikka-Skippy don't come along and see him.

Sep 01, 2015
"And it might have worked too, except no engineer who works with electrical stuffs would ever have said some thing as silly and un-engineer-like as that."
------------------------------------

They have invented a new device, and they call it a "transformer" because it transforms one voltage into another. One day, when you folk get that-there electricity-stuff, you will have one.

And the sillies like 166 will not have to pull within ten inches of a charger, because they will park over it.

Where do we get these deep thinkers?

Sep 01, 2015
Cher I am not the senior engineer of the power companies like you are not either, but I got know. Do you have the Alzheimer condition?

You start off with this really senior-engineer-like stuffs,,,

Not new. But useful. All electrical power in an A/C system is passed through magnetic fields.

In the late 1980's EPRI had a bus set up with this,.

Later in the same article on the same day you some senior-engineer-like stuffs like this,,,,,

They have invented a new device, and they call it a "transformer" because it transforms one voltage into another.

Cher you need to take notes while you are passing on your senior-engineer-like wisdoms because you are having trouble keeping it straight, in the same article.

Where do we get these deep thinkers?

I've tried to tell you that is what you are going to run in to on a science site. To be the senior-engineer you need to stick with the new-agey place interweb places where the deep thinkers hang out.

Sep 01, 2015
P.S. for you glam-Skippy.

All electrical power in an A/C system is passed through magnetic fields.

Now I got know why after saying something as silly as that you can still try to pretend you are the senior engineer of anything? First it is the wrong way to write him. All "A/C" (as you call it) GENERATES a magnetic field and all alternating magnet fields GENERATE an alternating electric field.

Skippy you are dumb as a blown fuse in windmill generator. (Now would be a good time to try to be real smart with the terminology thing to show off your senior-engineer's skills.)

Sheesh, Cher, you should have tried out your senior-engineer routine on some real engineers first instead of relying on the Skippettes over the Greenpeace site telling you that you were getting it right.

Sep 01, 2015
Yeah, you tow-boat helpers are pretty astute when it comes to alternating current.

But I'm not going to send you my EPRI course, nor any others.

So you can save your silly goober-speak stuff for the tourists.

Sep 01, 2015
Yeah, you tow-boat helpers are pretty astute when it comes to alternating current..

Well Cher, it seems we know a lot more about it than the senior-engineers at the PG and the E, eh? But then, in my engine room I got the real AC generators, and even a couple of DC dynamos. Cher, it is over. You just keep proving that all you got is "rally cry" slogans from the new-agey places and no real technical understanding. Choot, you went to the 32 week radio school and still don't know the basic electricity.

I don't need your EPRI course that you were not going to send to me anyway. Choot you don't even remember the name of the school that give to you the master degree or even the junior diploma.

Why you think I would be impress with the EPRI interweb course you took that you paid $99.99 for? (And no Skippy, they do not give any master or junior degrees, they give out little certificates for the short courses peoples take on the interweb.)

Clearly Ira is here to play games. Does he argue against my assertion power is transmitted wirelessly between electrically-separated coils through magnetic fields?

Or, are we going to get more cute Cajun-speak verbal gumbo?

Sep 01, 2015
Clearly Ira is here to play games. Does he argue against my assertion power is transmitted wirelessly between electrically-separated coils through magnetic fields?

Even though it is a pretty sure bet Cher, that you really don't know much more about electricity than you can rush out and grab in a hurry from the interweb (which is how you keep tripping up in the tall grass) why would think it strange to find a Cajun on a science place that really knows a lot about electricity and motors? Cher there is nothing you can teach me about electricity and motors, and I really don't think there is much about radio that you know that I don't know a lot better.

Your play acting engineer has flopped Skippy, there is no way you could rehabilitate your "cred" here. EVERYONE knows you are the silly couyon. Not just ol Ira-Skippy, not just otto-Skippy, not just Eikka-Skippy, but EVERY Skippy on here. Except maybe Really-Skippy but he is a special case him.

Sep 02, 2015
Ira.
...Except maybe Really-Skippy but he is a special case him.
Why drag me into this? Just because gkam has more relevant real-world experience, knowledge and info on the subject than you and all the other moronic 'personality cult' trolls, deniers and know-nothings combined, there is no reason to drag me into your pathetic futile pretense at trying to sound relevant either in the science or humanity discourse here. Piss off, you babbling 'couyon skippy' dumb muffin, and leave me out of your nonsense. Annoy your poor embarrassed 'missus-skippy' if you want to annoy anybody, you 'twat-skippy'. Leave the adults alone while they're talking of things obviously beyond your experience, imagination and comprehension. What a loser. Poor dumb dishonest desperate slob wanting attention but not having the wherewithal to pull it off honestly because he's so pathetically inadequate he has to bot-vote and troll a science site to delude himself he is 'relevant' so far. Poor Ira. :(

Sep 02, 2015
So what? There are all ready 100,000,000s of km's of transmission lines.

An inductive charging road has looped coils that may have a kilometer of conductor in a single meter of blacktop. While we may afford a million km of transmission lines, can we afford a billion more?

In the late 1980's EPRI had a bus set up with this

No it didn't. This is a resonant transformer which is a later development although a very old invention, while in the 1980's they would have had a regular air-gap transformer similiar to a cordless electric toothbrush. The difference is that the resonant transformer recycles any un-transmitted energy in the field which yields higher efficiency, whereas the regular induction charger doesn't and that makes it horribly wasteful.

The reason why they didn't have resonant transformers in the 80's is because these systems switch at MHz frequencies. Otherwise the necessary capacitors would be the size of a house.

Sep 02, 2015
I used to be opposed to this (because it could mean your battery is empty when you need it)...but the actual use case is simply to give backup powerplants (gas turbines) time to come online.

That's actually a very good point. For absolute peak demand, even the price argument is moot because fuel cells and diesel generators cost just as much per kWh as car batteries. It helps as long as we have gas turbines - the question is then what?

The V2G argument however is not typically about that, but actually storing and releasing renewable energy in the timescale of hours and days to patch up the intermittency, and for that the car batteries are woefully inadequate and much too expensive, and the system is inconvenient and counter-productive to the owners of the vehicles.

Sep 02, 2015
Clearly Ira is here to play games. Does he argue against my assertion power is transmitted wirelessly between electrically-separated coils through magnetic fields?

That's not what "wirelessly" means in this context. You're just using a technicality to throw some smoke on the fact that you were completely off the mark.

Our transmission systems are based on transformers with cores that provide a fixed magnetic circuit for the field flux, which then behaves much like electricity in a wire when it travels the low reluctance path through the core iron. Even the equations that describe the field use an Ohm's law analogue when describing a transformer.

When you split the core and introduce a significant air gap, now that's different. Now you have weak coupling between the coils and energy going all around in space, not necessarily where you want it to go. That's what we're talking about with wireless power, and that's NOT how our AC transmission systems work.

Sep 02, 2015
In fact, the wireless bus wasn't done in the 1980's, but in 1994 in Berkeley:

http://www.path.b...4-07.pdf

They achieved 80% efficiency with their wireless charger running at 1200 amps and 400 Hz.

The ultimate problem though?

The pickup cores were originally budgeted for $15,000 and the roadway
cores for $135,000 but they ended up costing $27,100 and $277,500, respectively.

In today's money, that would be $43,600 and $444,000 for the pickup and transmitter. That's nearly half a million dollars for a 30 meter stretch of road.

Sep 02, 2015
There is a substantial amount of people who fear background RF, cell tower and WiFi radiation. Cell towers put out just a few watts, are 100s of feet away and WiFi is in the milliwatt range. I am sure that they will be thrilled driving in the center of multi KW antenna.

Sep 02, 2015
Eikka, my point was valid. You chose to select technicalities for argument. I want Eikka again to tell us how his own folk cannot make these simple systems operate correctly. Tell us how the problems with alternative energy make it a fool's bargain, although it is replacing costlier and much dirtier sources.

I want Eikka to tell us again how California cannot work.

Sep 02, 2015
Eikka, my point was valid. You chose to select technicalities for argument.

You mean he is being unfair because he doesn't use slogans, snide one liners and name calling? That is sort of what everybody has been telling you Cher.

I want Eikka again to tell us how his own folk cannot make these simple systems operate correctly.

He just did that Cher. And you have no "technical argument" to what he says, just more smoking and mirroring.

Tell us how the problems with alternative energy make it a fool's bargain,

He just again did Cher.

although it is replacing costlier and much dirtier sources.

He just did explain why it is NOT "replacing" other sources. But because it was "technical arguing" you did not get the message.

I want Eikka to tell us again how California cannot work.

You gone off the deep end there Skippy. Oh pardon, that was the correct untechnical arguing. That is one he probably can't answer non.

@ glam-Skippy.

Well at least you haven't stooped to the technical discussing like some on here.

I with you on that one, let's get these peoples consumed with the technical stuffs off here so we can get on with the stories about things that peoples did but never really were.

Do you intentionally look for the stupidest things to say to prove you make it up too fast from the interweb buzzy talk?

Southern Company does not include Louisiana, so why they want to hire any Cajun, eh?

Sep 02, 2015
Did you not notice Gulf Power in the list? I also did extensive work for SWEPCO.

Sorry, Goober, you've been outed as a tiny ego with a big mouth.

Sep 02, 2015
Ira, you have been emotionally-manipulated through your silly ego by otto, who has turned you against supporting the environment which sustains your life.

You got manipulated again, Ira! How many times does it have to happen? Look at your posts. They are just silly nonsense, playing some kind of gotcha game.

Go to twitter or facebook or some high-school site for these games.

Sep 02, 2015
Did you not notice Gulf Power in the list?

I did notice him too Skippy, but they are for Florida not Louisiana.

I also did extensive work for SWEPCO.

Look em up quick Cher. Because I am going to ask you which one. The power company or the petroleum products company? And why you not put him on the list when you were trying to sound like you couldn't find any Cajun engineer while you doing your senior engineer stuffs not in Louisiana? If it is the power company, then I bet you too did run into a Cajun engineer or three.

Skippy, you are a really bad liar. I don't know what talent you got or what you can do good, but you are really bad at the interweb expert thing.

Sep 02, 2015
They are just silly nonsense, playing some kind of gotcha game..

Well with you it ain't much of game. You end up scoring all the gotcha points for the other side. But Really-Skippy seems to like it so there is one fan in your fan club.

Sep 02, 2015
Ira, please go to Facebook for your silly gotcha games. This is a science site.

XXOO,

Sep 02, 2015
This is a science site.

One of these days you will get around to posting up some of that. I was beginning to think he is the site for glam-Skippy to postum bumper sticker slogans and drum up some tee-shirt businesses (and pretend to be six kinds of senior engineer).

Oh my golly. I had better shut my mouth before I end up in a lot trouble. What is the interweb libel? Will they put me in the Parish prison for that or send me off to the Angola place? Either way I don't think I want any of that.

The defamation stuffs I am not too worried about because I just don't see how I can defame a Skippy who was never famous in the first place. Telling tall tales about all the things you never did does not count as any kind of fame. Not on my interweb it does not anyway.

Sep 02, 2015
Why drag me into this? Just because gkam has more relevant real-world experience, knowledge and info on the subject than you and all the other moronic 'personality cult' trolls, deniers and know-nothings combined
So THIS is how gullible you are. Wow.
Ira, your daddy otto has already crossed into internet libel and defamation. He is not a good act to follow.
More threats george? Your lies and fabrications are easy to prove. Your delusions of VA psych ward doctors reading my every post clearly indicates some mental problems there.

Is this the real reason for using your real name here? You trying to scam the good people at physorg who are sick and tried of your lies and fabrications and feel the need to express those opinions?

You going to sue everybody here who has called you a liar and a raving lunatic in one way or another?

Lots of luck old man.

Your expose will continue.

All those gas guzzlers just fill themselves up. You don't need some thick unwieldy tube that you MUST hold onto for 10 minutes while an explosive liquid pollution is pumped into your car or anything.

you do in fact need it, but every 10 days or less, not every single day.

I was just kidding around Cher. I did not mean anything by it. You should try enjoy life a little more it is good.

Poor Ira. :(

Well ol Ira-Skippy is not the one in the bad mood all the time like you seem to always be in. So I am going to Poor Really-Skippy right back to you.

Sep 02, 2015
Poor insensible dishonest pathetic bot-voting 'personality troll' Ira-skippy. Only such a total dirkwad loser would equate objective observations about his irrelevant and just plain malicious ignorant 'couyon-skippy' act on a science site as 'being moody'. He doesn't get it that the problem is his "karma points" and 'personal hate list' bot-voting/harassing on a science site that is the ego-driven (and probably drink/drug/stupidity driven) problem that is facing humanity all over the globe...be they climate science deniers/lobbyists or deniers/lobbyists for just plain stupid personality cult 'gang' mentality. Both are just the dregs of humanity and their counter-logical sociopathic intrusions into serious discourse on humanity's most serious problems/issues is a sure sign of that irrelevance and malice which is being still displayed by this Ira twit deluding himself that he is in any way capable of constructive and honest contributions while he makes nonsense 'his legacy'. :(

Sep 02, 2015
Well put.

Sep 02, 2015
He doesn't get it that the problem is his "karma points" and 'personal hate list'

My problem is not the karma points. I do not even ever look at them. I don't care nothing about them. I cast my vote then move on to the next postum. Skippy, I do not hate you. If I hated you I would put you on the "don't show me this fool's stuff" button like I did to the Can't-Drive-Nazi-Skippy.

bot-voting/harassing on a science site that is the ego-driven problem that is facing humanity all over the globe.

Well you started it

intrusions into serious discourse on humanity's most serious problems/issues is a sure sign of

Are you working up to another Really-Cavalry-Skippy speech like the last one?

Ira twit deluding himself that he is in any way capable of constructive and honest contributions while he makes nonsense 'his legacy'. :(

That's right, it is the service to scientists and humans. That I do at no charge I will have you know.

Sep 02, 2015
Well put.

Not so much Cher. It is the exact same thing he has been writing for years and more years now. It's a generical snip and glue he uses on me all the time. He never has any new material.

But I am hoping he will do the "going to climatic conference to change the world with the Really-Cavalry-Skippy" thing again. Have you seen that one? It's the hoot, I got him marked up so I can find him quick if you want to see it. Nobody could stop laughing when he wrote that one about being the Really-Cavalry and his paper that would change the world.

Sep 02, 2015
P.S. for you Really-glam-Skippys. The paper must have been a flop, because the world hasn't changed over night like you said it would. And you also said the everybody everywhere would be talking about,,,,,, physorg missed it too, so maybe you can post him here so we can start talking and changing.

Poor poor bot-voting Ira twat. He admits giving out "karma points" to people on his "list" based on his personal hates/ignorance, and when told that is his problem on a science site, he pretends it isn't his problem that his mindless bot-voting of "karma points" because he doesn't look at others' ratings of his own mindless drivel. Yep, still stupid as the dumb-bot he uses for his bot-voting "karma points" based on his own driveling irrelevances and malice. Poor poor Ira-bot. Still posting claims about something which has not yet been published. What a dishonest maroon this Ira-skippy is. His 'legacy to humanity' is his internet record of drivel from a malicious bot-voting trolling ignoramus. Wow. Maybe his "missus-skippet" will finally tell him the truth about himself, at the risk of being met with blank stares from the driveling nincompoop she (allegedly) married. Poor "Missus-skippet".

PS: To "missus-Ira_skippette": My sincere condolences for your Ira-skippy 'millstone'.

He admits giving out "karma points" to people

Why I wouldn't admit it?I don't know what the buttons are there but to vote.

it isn't his problem that his mindless bot-voting of "karma points" because he doesn't look at others' ratings of his own mindless drivel

It is not my problem.I am not the Skippy who has to count them. I think it is your problem Cher, you are the one who keeps bringing it up in a bad mood.

Still posting claims about something which has not yet been published

That is another Really-Skippy how can I claim anything about something that is not in the stores yet.

What a dishonest maroon this Ira-skippy is.

Are you saying I told the lie about you saying you were the Really-Cavalry would make all the world listen and change when you presented your paper? You said it would be this past year? You was taking time off from your toes because it was to important to humans?

Skippy, I got him marked up to find again quick

Sep 02, 2015
Poor bot-voting Ira-ignoramus. An objective observer notes his bot-voting of his "karma points" to others on his 'personal hates' list, on a science site, and poor dumb Ira-twit says 'counting' of each and every one of his mindless idiocies is needed before making that observation. Poor slob, can't find any sense among his brain cells and dishonest character, and must drivel on and on with irrelevant excuses for being so mindlessly embarrassing to himself and his longsuffering "missus-Ira-Skippy".

PS: Again, my condolences to you, "missus-Ira-Skippy". It must be pure torture for you to read your Ira-Skippy-couyon's 'legacy to hukmanity and science' here and elsewhere on the net. If ever you do tell him the truth about himself and his actions here, I can only trust he won't turn violent or put you on his hate list for shouting his "karma points" drivel at you, or worse. Good luck, and my sympathy.

PPS: Missus-Ira-skippete: Is this Ira-twat really this dim and dishonest?

Little sad man, my Ira-Skippy is the best thing that ever happened to me. He is an almost perfect husband, a wonderful father, works hard, plays gentle and is truly loved by all that know him. He is honest to a fault, maybe that is why you need write such vulgar rantings in response to harmless banter?

He is a couyon? A common mistake. Have you pondered over some of your own writings? The Ira Show has many devoted fans here, and you are one of the main characters. I would not be flattered.

Did you type that out of your own free will, or under duress from your 'harmless' Ira-Skippy?

That is the problem when one 'plays personal games' on a SCIENCE SITE, against people seriously engaged in objective discourse in science/humanity.

Go read the FULL record of Ira-skippy's malignant sabotage/skewing of the site's discourse/metrics, and see what this 'Ira-loser' ignoramus and his 'cajun act' really *is*. A pathetic 'sabotage for kicks' troll.

PS: That Missus-Ira-skippete was the poor Ira-twat 'playing with itself'.

RC, I will not quit until we get the troubled trolls off this forum. It may take requiring real names, which will pretty much take care of many. Taking public responsibility for adolescent behavior will shut some big mouths down.

I suggest these maladjusted kids go to Twitter of Facebook or Classmates, or some place with a tie to adolescence for their silly personal attacks.

To stay on topic, I again predict we will have these in our garages.

Again, as always, you think the topic is george kamburoff...

Ive told you before and Ill tell you again, people posting under their real names would still be calling you a liar for misrepresenting your phony education and experience, and for making up facts like fallout being the main cause of lung cancer.

Like I say youve told us WHO you are. The crud you post tells us WHAT you are.

This is how things work here.

Sorry of you and your fellow wetbrains dont like it.

Hey rc - whats your real name and address? George thinks you should reveal it here.

George should be sharing your 1.6 reject rating soon enough.

Context, mate. Ira the bot-voting troll wrote his own glowing character reference and posted it in the name of his "missus". When a bot-voting 'personality cult' troll does that he is 'playing with himself'. Anyhow, why haven't you learned from last time? You were also being a 'personality cult' troll ignoring the science/logic in order to incorrectly harass/attack me when I pointed out the principle/reality of 'developmental trajectory' for new/enhanced tech/systems. You since had occasion to point out the very same thing to others, and chided them for not recognizing same; so your comment now is rather lame and hypocritical trying to again take issue with me who is correct and you're ignoring the context of my comment re Ira's trolling/sabotaging bot-voting mindless idiocies.

Rethink it, mate. :)

Some old regulars know who I am and what I have been working on. I am not fussed either way, because I let the science/logic/observations speak for themselves. As for gkam and his request that YOU and other trolls attacking him and challenging his qualifications and veracity, and wanting to know what HE has done in the field, then it's only fair that his anonymous trolls/detractors/harassers ALSO do likewise, just so we ALL can see WHO/WHY the 'personal attacks' are being made. That's only natural justice/fair dealing. If you/others ATTACK the PERSON and speciously DEMAND gkam's qualifications/proof of field experience etc, then the only way he can provide that is to provide references as to who he is/what he has done in the field. He has done so. You cannot now credibly refuse to do the same in return. Why evade it?

You cannot now credibly refuse to do the same in return
Okay. I have a ph double d in nuclear physics with a minor in everything else which I earned while flying sr 71s in the desert for mcnamara.

Therefore when I say that fallout is the main cause of lung cancer you had better well BELIEVE it, and not question it, and not look it up on the internet, and not confront me with the truth, or you are an obvious bully with a fixation.

But then Im just playing you like a skin flute so ha ha.

Hows that you retard? How did you earn that 1.6? By respectable posting or by posting bullshit like your fellow wetbrain?

By being targeted by you/other bot-voting idiots trolling sites, skewing metrics. You make asses of yourselves by downvoting others even when others correct on the science/tech/logics/objectivity/fairness. Remember when you did that before, even when you were incorrect? Now you again gang together with that even-more-idiotic Ira-bot-voter ignoramus, demonstrating your own fixation/motivation is 'personal trolling' in order to abuse the ratings system. You have TWICE now in this thread betrayed yourself/your aim here is 'ratings abuse': you troll the person, sabotage discourse, 'downvote' others regardless of their being correct and you incorrect. You are yet one more instance of what humanity/science has to endure from 'the dead weight' proportion of humanity bringing only 'personal' hatred, unreasoning idiocy, malignant ego and mindless sabotage-for-kicks. :(

RC,

In groups, and with personal anonymity, the lurking cowards get the guts to show their teeth.

Sep 04, 2015
Eikka, my point was valid. You chose to select technicalities for argument.

Your point was that we've already had wireless power transmission because bog standard transformers technically provide galvanic isolation. But that's just you who's arguing on a technicality. By the same criteria as in your "point", we can plug a corded drill into a 1:1 isolation transformer and then call it a cordless drill because power is being transmitted "wirelessly" to it.

The aspects, prospects and problems of a technology such as wireless power transmission sure seem trivial when you know absolutely nothing of it, and don't even know what the term means.

Sep 04, 2015
If you/others ATTACK the PERSON and speciously DEMAND gkam's qualifications/proof of field experience etc, then the only way he can provide that is to provide references as to who he is/what he has done in the field. He has done so.

No he hasn't. He's just telling other people to "check me up" and playing passive-agressive games.

Last time when I asked him to send me proof of his thesis which he was referring to as a prop and proof of his authority on some subject - even just the abstract and conclusions or anything that would illustrate what it was even about - he refused.

But at least we established that his actual job description had very little to do with what's happening on the supply or transmission side of the electric grid, and his main expertise is in the power quality concerns inside customer premises.

In matters of energy, he's more like a plumber commenting on the Hoover Dam through his understanding of garbage disposal units.

Sep 04, 2015
yet one more instance of what humanity/science has to endure from 'the dead weight' proportion of humanity bringing only 'personal' hatred, unreasoning idiocy, malignant ego and mindless sabotage-for-kicks. :(

It takes two to tango. Without self-absorbed posers like gkam, there would be nothing for pokers and jokers like Ira.

In fact, they balance each other out. If there were none to ridicule people like gkam for what they are and what they're trying to do, we might be mistaken to take them seriously, and that's when things would really start to go wrong.

Sep 04, 2015
Eikka, who are you? Who?

Ask Mike Massen to post the thesis. I sent it to him. And I gave you and everybody else proof of my service including pictures with the site addresses of three military organization websites. YOU are the phony, hiding behind some pseudonym, attacking every idea you come across as of some kind of proof you are real. But you are not, Eikka, you are just a lurker, like otto the Vandal.

Sorry to get you emotionally-disturbed, but if you came to California, the psychological shock of the future would kill you.

Stay home. Meanwhile, we will park over our induction coils to recharge our electric cars.

Don't look!

Eikka, who are you? Who?
Hes the guy who posts honest, verifiable facts. Youre the guy who posts made-up facts and lies and expects the people here to believe them without question just because you reveal your real name.

Like I say, WHAT you are is far more important than WHO you are. Revealing your real name only tells us that george kamburoff is a lying, cheating, delusional posturer.

And most likely a psychopath, according to the evidence you have deposited here.

How exactly would real names make people "responsible" for their posts?

Hypothetical: You have my real name, I post that you are a narcissistic has been with delusions of adequacy.

An FYI re English Language/Usage: English is a 'living language' whose elements/usages evolve/enhance/expand over generations/eras to reflect 'current context/meanings', in which process old words acquire new context/meanings when they become useful for expressions which could not be more conveniently/effectively/efficiently conveyed using other words or creating new words along with the new context.

Eg, in the Internet Age we use "Troll" in a new way. So it is with "Lurker", which is being used in a new way. The point is the contextual meaning which adds a further 'usage scope' than the words previously had. See? :)

Sep 06, 2015
Beep Beep Beep - Thats my bullshit alarm going off.

You are just plain making it up RealityCheck! "Lurker" still means what it has always meant.

Contextual usage also includes the user, who is 71 years old. Hardly a candidate for new usage of an old term.

If I am incorrect please provide a valid reference with an example of the "new" usage.

Beep Beep Beep. Oh dear, my wirelessly recharged bullshit detector just went off.
Perhaps you know what lurker means now?

Got a Facebook page?

Sep 06, 2015
Hi Estevan57. First, my apologies for typing the wrong name last time. Now briefly...
You are just plain making it up RealityCheck! "Lurker" still means what it has always meant. Contextual usage also includes the user, who is 71 years old. Hardly a candidate for new usage of an old term. If I am incorrect please provide a valid reference with an example of the "new" usage.
New usages take years to eventually be included in official terminology/usage updates in Oxford etc dictionaries. And it has nothing to do with the age of the speakers/users, but the context/era which gives rise to changing usage/terms. As for your "participant" condition, please note that a troll is NOT 'participating', but 'interrupting'/trolling.

So "Lurker" can refer to BOTH a SILENT 'bot-voting' troll (eg "tooty") OR a bot-voting AND 'disruptive' ACTIVE troller/harasser poster (eg, "Uncle Ira"...who didn't know/understand what a maths/physics 'singularity' meant but still trolled).

Ciao. :)

Sep 06, 2015
"Beep Beep Beep. Oh dear, my wirelessly recharged bullshit detector just went off."

Yes, when you wear that aluminum colander on your head. it interferes with the transmissions through the foil on your walls.

Sep 06, 2015
Beep Beep Beep. There you go again. - Ronald Reagan - the wirelessly recharged president.

Wrong. Just plain wrong. If a lurker posts, they are no longer a lurker, but a poster, regardless of content.

Saying there is a new meaning to the word doesn't make it so. Especially from you.

As for Ira, he may be the most straight forward honest poster in the entire comments section.
(No I don't owe him money.) Most, if not all the people he finds to be self-important or blatantly obtuse are exactly that. He has never pretended to know more than he does, which is to be respected.

Perhaps you could learn what the word "bot" means? See "automated program", NOT a person.
By definition.

End of topic, Br'e Estevan57 ain't gonna get caught up in the Tar-baby of RealityCheck madness.

Sep 06, 2015
Hi Estevan57. :) What you say is correct...up to where it's being superceded by the "English as a living language' effect applying even as we speak.

A user can 'lurk' passively without commenting while he seeks opportunities to troll and disrupt....and when that opportunity arises the 'lurker' proceeds to interrupt/sabotage discourse.

By rules of engagement/debate, that lurker-troll is NOT 'participating' in the objective discourse, but rather trying to derail it.

That 'poster' is not necessarily a 'participant in the TOPIC discussion, but rather an OFF-TOPIC troll on purpose for discussion derailing etc motives.

Would you term anyone who intrudes on a debate, to stop debate, a 'debater' or 'participant'?

The point was that meanings/usage in English is always in FLUX. Persistent (years) changes finally make the official lexicon/dictionary; while transient 'faddish' terms/changes fall away, become obsolete before making official lexicon/dictionary status.

Cheers.

Sep 06, 2015
I thought a 'lurker' was a weak alcoholic drink. No? Then soon to be added definition - Lurker, an alcoholic drink sufficiently weak to allow several to be consumed over an extended time.

Usage example: I'll drink a few lurkers while reading this tedious thread.

The joys of a living language.

Sep 07, 2015
What's your problem with context/facts? My posting record demonstrates my strict loner status and scrupulous independence and eschewing of all 'gang/group' mentality/tactics with anyone
Your ratings status shows that most everybody here thinks you're full of shit. And your neurotic backslashes and smiley faces are annoying.
As for "buttbuddies" remark, you have only to look at the ratings pages to see who is bot-gang-voting "buttbuddy" with whom for 'personal' motives not science
Now that's not true and you know it. George thinks that posting his real name gives him some authority to make up all sorts of bullshit unopposed.

This is a psychopathic delusion (I'm george kamburoff the one and only and I'll say whatever occurs to me because i_am_superior.)

In actuality the few remaining who support him - thermodynamics, howhot, you - use pseudonyms. He thinks as little of you all as he does those who expose his lies.

Psychopaths endeavor to exploit everybody.

Sep 07, 2015
"(I'm george kamburoff the one and only and I'll say whatever occurs to me because i_am_superior.)"

Well, I am apparently emotionally and experientially superior to you, otto. Is that what got in your craw? Beat at your own silly game of gotcha?

But, once again, I predict almost all of us will charge our electric vehicles at home with induction systems.

Sep 07, 2015
Hi Otto. :) Be reasonable. What's a friendly 'smiley' that one could take offense; or contractions/slashes due to 'limited text' format? Any reasonable person would tell you that OTHERS' 'personal' trolling, harassing, bot-voting and 'cajun act' drivel would be what you should be objecting to, not 'smileys'/speech contractions. :)
My posting record demonstrates my strict loner status and scrupulous independence and eschewing of all 'gang/group' ...
Your ratings status shows that most everybody
I said POSTING record, not RATING status. The former is replete with proof of my genuine impartiality towards science/persons; as for the latter, your "most everybody" consists of a few PROVEN trolls/bot-voters, so hardly "most everybody". :)

Look again. Trolls downvoting/bot-voting against the PERSON even though post/science correct.

FYI: Ratings system at 'old' physorg disabled by owner due to 'skewing' by trolls/bot-voters/gamers.

Rethink it, mate. Cheers. :)

Sep 08, 2015
I said POSTING record, not RATING status. The former is replete with proof of my genuine impartiality towards science/persons
As I recall the times we've tangled your tactics were anything but 'impartial'. For instance your logic re gkams insistence on real names. Obviously he looks down on everybody here including you.

And no, it takes a general consensus to reach the ones. Be honest with yourself.

What old physorg are you talking about?

Sep 08, 2015
Well, I am apparently emotionally and experientially superior to you, otto
This is something only a psychopath would say in a rare moment when he lets his true nature slip.

You're losing your touch george.

One thing you can't hide is the nonsense you post for example that fallout is the main cause of lung cancer, manure (which you mistakenly call volatile solids) is a major polluter of the high air in the central valley, or that there was an H2-initiated Pu prompt criticality at fukushima which left no crater but threw imaginary vessel parts 130km.

You've posted dozens of such examples of truly embarrassing inanity which leads people to conclude that you live a massively deluded lie. THIS you can't hide from anyone but yourself.

Nobody is fooled here but you and apparently rc who craves allies as much as you.

Sep 08, 2015
I guess it is time to take away one more of your silly charges. No, I did not say " there was an H2-initiated Pu prompt criticality at fukushima which left no crater but threw imaginary vessel parts 130km."

I said in the study of contaminants and explosion of Unit Three, nuclear scientists said they were only made in a criticality, probably caused by the Plutonium in the MOX fuel used in Unit Three under compression by a hydrogen explosion. As you can see from the videos of the differences between hydrogen explosions, Unit Three was much different and much more powerful. Analysis of the by-products proved the decay chain.

Small particles of the former unit three and its fuel were found 130 km away, according to the Japanese. None of the assertions were mine.

The real problem is your inability to grow up, isn't it? Whipsawed by those childish emotions which drive you to follow me, like a junkie who needs a fix? Go see Les Miserables. You did not invent psychopathy.

Sep 08, 2015
no I did not say
Sorry psychopath I'm not jumping through hoops for you. We've been through this before - you wait a month or so, you deny you said it, I post your exact words and links to the threads where you said it, and you get your thrills playing people like kazoos.

By now most people have witnessed this little psycho game of yours and know you for the liar that you are.

In truth your stunted intellect doesn't realize how inane your facts are, how transparent your pretensions are. To the people here though your psychopathy has been exposed.

People here know Otto the anonymous is an honest person, just as they now know that George kamburoff is a pathological liar and a con artist.

It's what we post that reveals our character, not who we claim to be.

Sep 08, 2015
You already do jump through hoops for me, otto.

Every time I post I count on it, like applause after a performance.

Outgrow your need for me, otto.

It ain't healthy.

Sep 08, 2015
Hi Otto. :)
I said POSTING record, not RATING status. The former is replete with proof of my genuine impartiality towards science/persons
As I recall...
Beware self-serving 'recall'; it reinforces prejudices, misunderstandings etc. I was always impartial because I always stood up against any/all 'personality cult' ego-tripping/malignant-mentality trolls (from any 'side' or 'gang' etc) who sabotaged attempts at calm, rational discourse on the science instead of the person/source irrelevancies.
For instance your logic re gkams insistence on real names. Obviously he looks down on everybody here including you.
I always treated gkam with respect and never attacked/disparaged him personally. His beef is with those that have done so, not me; hence his request that THEY identify themselves for 'fair play' reasons so that THEIR ANONYMITY is no longer enabling/covering their personal trolling/harassing. So your recall/assertions about me are non-sequiturs.

[cont...]

Sep 08, 2015
[...cont]@Otto.
it takes a general consensus to reach the ones.
No. It merely takes trolls/bot-voting programs sabotaging a site's ratings system. Evidence "tooty" bot-voting program operating automatically in my ratings page...

https://sciencex....k/?v=act

...look at "tooty" profile page...

https://sciencex....r/tooty/

...note "it" has made NO comments/posts; only automated bot-voting of persons from a programmed list....downvoting irrespective, whenever my genuine ratings status start to rise. The only reason my rating hasn't risen even more/faster is because I asked genuine posters/readers NOT to 'play games' like the trolls/bot-voters are doing therein. It's too easy for dishonest trolls/saboteurs to skew ratings to their mindless/malignant ends.

That's why the 'old' PhysOrg disabled theirs long ago, before selling their "phys.org" 'brand/name and renaming their old operation as...

https://www.physforum.com

What a mess!

Sep 08, 2015
I suspect "tooty" is another variation of otto, so loved by you-know-who, who bragged he likes to use such variations.

And the M.O. is the same. Expect "tooty" to start screaming in all caps any time now.

Sep 09, 2015
I always treated gkam with respect and never attacked/disparaged him personally
This is because you have no respect for facts and the truth. Gkam supports your opinions; therefore you dont much care whether he makes up facts or not. And you arent about to check to see if they are true or not.
His beef is with those that have done so, not me; hence his request that THEY identify themselves for 'fair play' reasons so that THEIR ANONYMITY is no longer enabling/covering their personal trolling/harassing. So your recall/assertions about me are non-sequiturs
Not true. George has never made the distinction. He thinks all who use pseudonyms are beneath him and didnt realize he included his 2 or 3 supporters in his blanket condemnations. Why would he think only those who are sick of his lies and games are 'afraid' to use their real names?

This only indicates that in his mania he doesnt think things through.

We all use pseudonyms for the same reason - prudence. George the psychopath is too reckless to appreciate this.

"One very interesting aspect of the psychopath is his "hidden life" that is sometimes not too well hidden. It seems that the psychopath has a regular need to take a "vacation into filth and degradation" the same way normal people may take a vacation to a resort where they enjoy beautiful surroundings and culture... this strange "need" of the psychopath - a need that seems to be evidence that "acting human" is very stressful to the psychopath..."

-This seems to include georges exposure of his reputation and his family by thoughtlessly posting his real name and address in a public forum, something that most sane people here wouldnt do.

This is similar to the pedo oliver manuel/omatumr telling everybody who he was and where to find him... evidence of delusions of grandeur and the delusion of invincibility common in psychopaths.

You already do jump through hoops for me, otto.

Every time I post I count on it, like applause after a oerformance
Something else only a psychopath would say.

Every time you post you reveal your true nature. George Kamburoff is a lying, cheating, manipulating psychopath as revealed by what he says in his posts. These are qualities only a psychopath would be proud of, which is why you enjoy flaunting them. You think they show how 'smart' you are. But they cost you many jobs I bet you were truly fond of, and many personal relationships as well.

And everybody here is applauding your inability to realize that theyre all laughing at you.

You see derision as accolades as well dont you? These cretins wouldnt be laughing if they were able to realize how brilliant you are.

Sadly they dont have the capacity to realize just how brilliant it is, knowing that fallout is the main cause of lung cancer, even though those slugs down at the CDC say otherwise.

Now THATS funny.

That is quite a fixation, you have there, Toots.

While you discuss psychopathy you demonstrate it for the rest of us.

In addition, you have crossed the line in the legal definition of internet libel. I'll have to see if it is worth going after you.

Phsy Org is an accessory.

So prove it. give some examples. Your posts are full of examples of your affliction.

You lie. I dont lie.
You always talk about yourself, including lying about and exaggerating your pedigree. I never do.
You admit that you enjoy making the people here jump through hoops by playing them like cheap kazoos.
You disparage those who disagree with you and everybody who 'hides' behind pseudonyms, including your few remaining supporters, all of whom use pseudonyms.

-These are all symptoms of psychopathy.

Provide some concrete examples of mine.

And youre right - I do hate psychopaths and will not leave them alone when they show up here.

ALL your transgressions are documented here. You have made the same accusations against me and others without adequate evidence.

Really-Skippy and Returnering-Skippy and JVK-Skippy thought that too. I hope you have better luck with that then they did. You guys got to get some original material. That's what I was hinting at when I said you are not the unique Skippy and were a dime for 2 dozens around here on the physorg

Everyday you guys get more and more stuffs in common. Maybe you can get together and make some extra money by letting the doctors study you guys to see what is going on with you.

My god, ignorant lurkers, taking personal shots because it is all they know. I think they were bullied in school, and this is how they "get even". It's probably also why they are home from school.

One is a silly gamer, the other, psychologically unbalanced. Dominated by a need to get even with those who beat him at this silly gotcha game, every time he fails it drives him to vandalize my character, only to reveal his own.

Empty claim. GIVE AN EXAMPLE or STFU.

Nobody here takes you at your word except for a few similarly lame supporters. Dont you know this by now?

Youre here to play goobers like cheap kazoos. Many examples of this including your own admission, many times.

"Imagine - if you can - not having a conscience, none at all, no feelings of guilt or remorse no matter what you do, no limiting sense of concern for the well-being of strangers, friends, or even family members. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken."

-Can you relate?

You ARE a cheap kazoo, otto. All I have to do is post, and you make terrible and rude noises.

You are a verbal whoopie-cushion.: I act, and you respond with the same classy stuff.

OK Gcam I gave you a 5 for that. This is one of the most creative out of the box retorts that I have ever read.
