NASA plans a news conference at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida next week to talk about the readiness of Space Shuttle Atlantis for launch.

The briefing -- to review a two-day detailed assessment of launch readiness -- will air live on NASA-TV next Wednesday.

The news conference will follow NASA's traditional Flight Readiness Review -- a thorough assessment of preparations for the next shuttle mission. The Aug. 15-16 review is designed to produce a number of key decisions about the Atlantis mission, STS-115, including selection of an official launch date.

The briefing will be held by NASA Administrator Michael Griffin; Bill Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for NASA Space Operations; Wayne Hale, NASA Space Shuttle Program manager; and Mike Leinbach, NASA launch director.
