In Brief: Intel mum on communications chip unit sale

Intel has been withholding comment on reports that it is in talks to sell its communications chip division.

The San Jose Mercury News reported the developments last weekend, and subsequent published reports peg the potential value of a deal at as high as $1 billion.

The company confirmed this week that all parts of Intel's operations were under review as part of a new strategic plan announced in April.

The communications chip division produces chips for cell phones and networking equipment.
