In Brief: GigaBeam releases 2.7-Gbps wireless links

GigaBeam has unveiled wireless fiber links it says reach the current licensed speed of 2.7 Gigabits per second.

The Virginia company's WiFiber G-2.7 series can be configured for a number of wireless networks, including Internet Protocol, High-Definition Television and data storage access.

"We believe GigaBeam has introduced the fastest licensed spectrum radio links in the world," said Chief Executive Officer Lou Slaughter. "The products are a seamless extension of our 1.25 Gbps WiFiber models."

The units themselves are designed for outdoor use with virtual 100-percent availability at up to 3 miles, regardless of weather.

Deliveries of the G-2.7 series will begin in the third quarter, the company said in a news release Tuesday.
