Briefs: Macquarie plans to expand Taiwan Broadband

The Australian bank acquiring Taiwan Broadband Communications plans to expand TBC's range of services for Internet and cable television subscribers.

Macquarie Media Group's managing director, Alex Harvey, told the Melbourne Herald Sun that Taiwan appeared to be a promising market for digital television and bundled voice and broadband service.

TBC is Taiwan's third-largest cable company and is owned by the Carlyle Group. Current management is expected to continue running the company under Macquarie, the newspaper said.

The deal announced Monday is worth nearly $1.2 billion and is the latest in a series of international acquisitions in various industry sectors by Macquarie.
