Google Maps combines with Google Local

Google Inc. of Mountain View, Calif., says it has combined its Google Maps service with Google Local, moving both out of beta, or testing, status.

Company officials Thursday said the technologies will be known as Google Local, providing local search and mapping information at one site.

"With today's launch of Google Local, users will be able to go to one location to find all the local and mapping information they need," said Marissa Mayer, director, of Google consumer web products.

Google Local allows users to conduct local searches and obtain detailed driving directions, and now includes features such as maps, satellite imagery, and keyboard shortcuts.
