BPL broadband seen growing 106 percent

The latest projections for Broadband over Powerline see the U.S. market growing 106 percent annually during the next six years.

The Irish analytical firm Research and Markets has a new report out predicting that BPL's share of the total U.S. broadband market will grow to 13 percent by 2012, with an impressive one-third of all new customers choosing BPL.

BPL is a fledgling but closely watched technology that delivers broadband Internet over power lines, opening the door for a new revenue stream for electric utilities. Technological and regulatory hurdles, however, have bogged down BPL's growth rate.
