TeleType Company will begin offering a global positioning system combined with an MP3 player for use in automobiles later this month.
The Boston company said Thursday the release date for its WorldNav 3000 XL is Sept. 15, with pre-release orders accepted on its Web site for $399.
"WorldNav 3000 XL is stylish, lightweight and easy to use, and we are excited to offer this device for a very reasonable price," said company spokeswoman Marleen Winer.
Weighing just 8 ounces, the portable WorldNav still has capacity for a pre-installed map package covering the entire United States and Puerto Rico. A Canadian package will be available at a future date.
In addition, owners can use their personal MMC or SD cards for expanded storage of MP3 files.
