GSA and Springboard GSA and Springboard Enterprises name start-up finalists for Dolphin Tank Pitch Session

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and Springboard Enterprises have announced seven finalists for the Dolphin Tank start-up pitch session, taking place on Friday, November 20, in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. These finalists, three of which are based in Orlando, represent America's most innovative companies focused on improving the lives of older adults.

The Dolphin Tank, a kinder, gentler version of ABC's hit television show "Shark Tank," is part of the Aging, Technology, and Innovation Conference to be held at GSA's 68th Annual Scientific Meeting, which will attract approximately 4,000 professionals in aging. The Dolphin Tank allows entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas for products and services that will aid older adults and their families—and receive positive feedback and actionable insights from a panel of experts and the audience.

The members of the expert panel include: Alex Guastella, a co-founder and managing partner of Wet Paint Ventures; Charlene Quinn, an associate professor at the University of Maryland Medical School; and David Lindeman, the director of the Center for Technology and Aging at the University of Calfornia, Berkeley, and an advisor to the U.S. President's Council of Advisors for Science & Technology. Kirstie Chadwick, the president and CEO of The National Business Incubation Association, will be the moderator.

The Dolphin Tank pitch session finalists (in alphabetical order) include:

Access HEARS (Baltimore, MD): A social enterprise working to disrupt the current hearing care industry by providing low-cost hearing care through a sustainable, community-delivered model. (http://www.accesshears.com)

Home for Life Design (Orlando, FL): Provides comprehensive home accessibility & technology solutions for patients, caregivers, and healthcare service providers to support aging-in-place. (http://www.homeforlifedesign.com)

LivingSmart (Orlando, FL): A comprehensive wellness management website designed to help adults establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle. (http://www.live-smart.org)

Project Carbon (Boston, MA): Uses gaming technology to aid Alzheimer's patients, while reducing future risks associated with neurological deterioration diseases. (http://www.projectcarbon.org)

Speak for Myself (Boca Raton, FL): A hospital experience-specific computer application for patients who are unable to verbalize their needs.
