ACC ACTION Registry-GWTG exceeds 1,000 participating sites

Florida Hospital Celebration Health recently became the 1,000th participating site in the American College of Cardiology's ACTION Registry-GWTG. This important milestone further expands the number of heart attack patients with access to improved care and outcomes through their hospital's participation in the registry.

"This achievement of 1,000 hospitals in the ACTION Registry-GWTG program is something all the participating hospitals should be proud of, as it reflects a sincere commitment to the care of present and future patients," said Deepak L. Bhatt, M.D., M.P.H, FACC, co-chair of the ACTION Registry-GWTG steering committee, executive director of Interventional Cardiovascular Programs at Brigham and Women's Hospital Heart and Vascular Center, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

As part of the ACC's National Cardiovascular Data Registry, the ACTION Registry-GWTG assists hospitals in measuring and improving guideline adherence during the treatment of heart attack patients. The registry provides participating sites with quarterly, nationally benchmarked reports and access to real-time quality improvement tools.

The registry was formed as the National Cardiovascular Data Registry's fourth registry in January 2007 and later merged with the American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines (GWTG)-CAD program to become the ACTION Registry-GWTG. The registry has been instrumental in several quality initiatives including the Door to Balloon (D2B) initiative and data collection for the AHA Mission: Lifeline program. In addition to these quality improvement initiatives, the ACTION Registry-GWTG has supported more than 70 studies and nearly 80 scientific abstract presentations.

As both the number of participating sites and the patient population grow, the registry will continue to provide insights about improving care and outcomes for heart attack patients.
