ANSTO to host the Inelastic Neutron Scattering School

July 7th, 2015

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), in partnership with AINSE are offering the next generation of researchers an opportunity to gain experience in using some of Australia's leading science instruments at the Inelastic Neutron Scattering School held on the 22 – 27 November 2015.

The one-week course offers a chance to work along-side some of Australia's leading scientists using ANSTO's neutron scattering instruments. ANSTO's Bragg Institute leads Australia in the use of neutron scattering and X-ray techniques and hosts 13 neutron scattering instruments including four spectrometers that provide the capability to observe energy transfers between 1µeV – 60meV.

These instruments support research in areas as diverse as protein dynamics to phonon dispersion, from magnetic dynamics to observation of the hyperfine structure of the nucleus.

Researchers, engineers and technicians will be on hand to assist your learning experience, providing you with skills that you can utilize at neutron sources around the world.

Who should attend the school?

The school is open to Graduate students, PhD students, post-doctoral and early career researchers who want to lean about inelastic neutron scattering.

What is the selection criterion?

The school is open to both local and international participants however there is a strict limit of 20 participants to ensure small group sizes for the practical experiments.

Participants are invited to submit an abstract outlining their scientific work and indicate how inelastic neutron scattering could support this work. Abstracts must be submitted by 31 July 2015. Positions at the school will be offered based on this abstract submission.

For more information about the school visit www.ansto.gov.au/inss2015 or email inss-2015@ansto.gov.au
