Elsevier and the International Solar Energy Society renew publishing agreement

June 3rd, 2015

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) are pleased to announce a renewal of their publishing agreement. Under the agreement, Elsevier will continue to provide publishing services for the society's journal Solar Energy. ISES and Elsevier have worked together continuously since 2002.

Solar Energy is published once a month and is the official journal of ISES. The journal has a 2013 Impact Factor of 3.541 and ranks 19 of 82 journals in the Energy & Fuels category according to the Journal Citations Reports published by Thomson Reuters.

"Solar Energy continues to go from strength to strength because of its unwavering commitment to commissioning the best quality papers from the most interesting people working in the field today. All of us at Elsevier feel immensely proud of our publishing coorporation with the International Solar Energy Society and the entire editorial team in producing such an excellent publication. We hope the journal's valued authors continue to send us their best papers, and wish to thank them and our hard-working reviewers for serving the journal so well," said Deborah Logan, Publishing Director for Energy & Earth Science Journals at Elsevier.

Introducing the New Editorial Structure

Under the leadership of the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. D.Y. Goswami, the Editorial team has been expanded to include four Subject Editors who will cover the most prolific areas of the journal. Over the past 5 years the number of submissions to the journal has increased by 27% and the number of articles published has more than doubled. Research in the solar energy and all renewable energy fields is driving force to achieving the 100% renewable energy transformation.

Elsevier and ISES are pleased to announce the appointments of the new subject editors:

  • Dr. Jan Kleissl, Associate Professor at University of California at San Diego (UCSD), USA, and Associate Director of UCSD Center for Energy Research, will lead the Solar Resources and Energy Meteorology's subject
  • Dr. Ranga Pitchumani, Chief Scientist for the SunShot Initiative at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the George R. Goodson Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech (USA), will be responsible for the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and High Temperature Applications subject area.
  • Dr. Yanjun Dai, Professor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University will lead Solar Heating & Cooling, Buildings and other applications
  • Dr. Nicola Romeo, Professor at the University of Parma will lead the area of Photovoltaics

"We are delighted to expand our editorial team, introducing new subject editors plays a key role of the Solar Energy's efforts to speed up the editorial process and to better serve our scientific community," said Fernanda Ogochi, Publisher of Applied Energy and Earth Science Journals at Elsevier. "With the new structure under the continued direction of Dr. Goswami, our journal is well positioned to remain a premier outlet for the publication of articles on all aspects of solar energy."
