Book by urogynecologist earns recognition

A book co-edited by Vivian W. Sung, MD, has earned Highly Commended Distinction by the British Medical Association (BMA), ob/gyn category of the BMA Book Awards 2014. The book is entitled Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery: Clinical Practice and Surgical Atlas, Ed. Rebecca Rogers, Vivian Sung, Ranee Thaker, Cheryl Iglesia, The McGraw-Hill Companies.

Sung is a urogynecologist in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

The book is a comprehensive, single-volume resource on urogynecology. It includes an introduction to this growing subspecialty and an overview of the underlying principles of female pelvic medicine, with an emphasis on diagnostic techniques and management strategies. The book also includes hundreds of original, full-color photographs and illustrations that provide step-by-step guidance on key surgical procedures with chapters authored by an international team of renowned experts.

Surgical Atlas—Reviews surgical instrumentation and illustrates surgery for stress urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fistula repair, anal incontinence, and covers the management of surgical complications.
