World's largest international forest research conference set for Salt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 5-11

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, will soon be host to the largest international gathering of forest researchers and practitioners in the world—providing journalists with unparalleled opportunities to interview and learn from some of the world's leading forest researchers, resource managers, and decisionmakers.

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) is holding its 24th World Congress October 5-11, 2014, in Salt Lake City. This premier forest research gathering, held every four to five years, is expected to attract 2,500 attendees from more than 100 countries and serves as an international knowledge sharing and networking event for the global forest science community. This is only the second time in IUFRO's history that the United States is host country of the World Congress.

The week-long Congress includes 168 technical sessions featuring more than 2,000 oral and poster presentations, as well as 5 plenary talks and 19 sub-plenary talks. Award presentations, receptions, and an exposition hall round out the Congress lineup.

The Congress will be held in conjunction with the Society of American Foresters' 94th National Convention and the Canadian Institute of Forestry Annual General Meeting, which, together, will bring an additional 1,000 forest land managers and decisionmakers to Salt Lake City October 8-11.

News media registration is complimentary—a $1,250 value—and media attendance is highly encouraged. Journalists will have access to the plenaries with follow-on news conferences, sub-plenaries, technical sessions, and the exposition floor (on October 9, from 16:00 to 18:00). An onsite newsroom with wireless Internet connectivity, laptops, printing and charging stations, and refreshments also will be available to media attendees.
