USC and fellow Pacific Rim universities to discuss issues facing Asia's older adults

Gerontology leaders from around the world will gather at the USC Davis School of Gerontology to discuss Asia's aging population during the 2014 Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Research Symposium on Aging September 14-17.

The conference will feature presentations on a number of issues, including:

• health and demographics of the aging population throughout Asia
• needs and adaptations for an aging world
• the interplay of policy, aging and health outcomes
• the creation of an APRU population aging research hub

Following an evening welcome reception at the USC Pacific Asia Museum on September 14, several USC Davis faculty members, postdoctoral research associates and doctoral students will present research along with fellow scientists from other APRU member institutions during topic-specific sessions throughout the week.

"As the world's population continues to age and global commerce and cultural activities become increasingly centered in the Pacific Rim, the USC Davis School of Gerontology and our partners in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities will need to provide leadership and innovation when societal challenges arise," said USC Davis School Dean Pinchas Cohen. "Sharing our investigations and insights with our APRU colleagues can lead to future collaborations and research that will improve lives throughout the world."
