Electroanalysis journal publishes a Special Issue about Clinical Diagnostics
The demand for the development of novel diagnostic tools with interest for clinical analysis is increasing. Electroanalysis along with other detection technologies is becoming an authoritative tool with interest for various industries. It is generating a particular enthusiasm in applications related to clinical analysis. In addition, recent developments in nano/microtechnologies and advanced materials offer opportunities for the development of cost-effective devices showing advantages in clinical laboratories and in point of care applications.
For all these reasons the journal Electroanalysis has published a Special Issue dedicated to "Electroanalysis-Based Clinical Diagnostics". The Editor of the Special Issue is ICREA Research Professor Arben Merkoçi, Group Leader at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group. He was invited by Professors Joseph Wang and Jose Pingarron to develop this role, and counted with his collaborator Dr. Eden Morales as handling editor of this issue. Prof. Merkoçi was in charge of selecting the first level contributors and curating a document which gathers the latest achievements in the design, fabrication and applications of electroanalysisbased devices in clinical field.
Both research and review papers related to various electroanalysis-based devices are presented in the Electroanalysis Special Issue. It includes ion-selective electrodes, biosensors, lab-on-a-chip devices and other electrical/electrochemical platforms with interest for the analysis of DNA, proteins, cells and other clinically important analytes. The articles published in this special issue are very useful for researchers and opinion leaders looking for the latest achievements as well as for industry stakeholders looking for innovative products and solutions in the field of clinical diagnostics.
