Elsevier launches new open-access journal: Respiratory Medicine Case Reports

July 19th, 2012

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of Respiratory Medicine Case Reports, a new online open access journal on general respiratory medicine that is dedicated to publishing case reports. Respiratory Medicine Case Reports has been created to publish case reports previously submitted to its sister journal Respiratory Medicine.

Accepted case reports include stories, anecdotes and patient-based lessons that complement evidence-based medicine and are essential to the advancement of healthcare. The journal will only publish case reports which are authentic, understandable, educational, clinical, and interesting to an international audience of respiratory physicians, trainees and researchers in all respiratory subspecialties, as well as clinicians in related fields.

Barbara Yawn, Editor-in-Chief of the journal, said of the launch, "I am delighted to be working as editor of this new journal. We have been receiving many high quality case reports to Respiratory Medicine and we now have the ability to publish more of these important case studies."

Dr. Yawn is a long-standing member of the Editorial Board for Respiratory Medicine and Director of Research at the Olmsted Medical Center and Adjunct Professor, Department of Family and Community Health at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Yawn is a full-time physician researcher and opened the Olmsted Medical Center in 1990.

Peter Harrison, Vice President Health and Medical Sciences Journals at Elsevier, added, "We are pleased to be able to offer this new open access service to the author community in respiratory medicine. Elsevier has a long history of publishing in the respiratory field and we believe that Respiratory Medicine Case Reports will add to our portfolio of respiratory journals. This journal offers physicians a place to communicate important clinical findings that have to date been lacking in respiratory medicine due to the difficulties in publishing case studies in traditional research journals."
