Sony said Friday it will strengthen its digital household-electronics product line in an effort to boost profit.

The company's announcement comes a week after the Japanese electronics giant unveiled a sweeping restructuring plan that includes slashing 10,000 jobs worldwide.

Sony said it will concentrate on developing portable products by using semiconductors that are used in its PlayStation video-game consoles.

The company is aiming to showcase its lineup of new products by the end of next year.
