Hutchinson's acquisition of India's BPL Mobile Cellular has been completed, it was announced Tuesday.

BPL Mobile Cellular operates in three Indian license areas and gives Hong Kong-based Hutchinson Telecom a firmer foothold in the booming India market.

The joint venture is called Hutchinson Essar and was formed by Hutchinson and partner Essar Teleholdings Ltd.

Hutchinson Essar now operates in 16 "circle" territories, including all metro circles.
