Briefs: Telenor sets up Asia, East Europe units

Jan 10, 2006

Telenor established Tuesday two separate units specifically to handle its Asian and European wireless business.

Arve Johansen will head the Asia unit, while Jan Edvard Thygesen will lead the Eastern and Central Europe operations, the Norwegian telecommunications group said. Both will be joining the management group upon their appointment.

"Asia and Eastern/Central Europe are becoming increasingly important to Telenor. To achieve success, each operation must develop local competitiveness through partnerships and exchange of competence across companies, countries and regions. The composition of the group management reflects this development, and secures necessary backing for these important efforts," Chief Executive Jon Fredrik Baksaas said in a news release.
