Briefs: Intel expects more WiMax rollouts by 2006

Intel expects 11 more carriers to begin deployment of WiMax networks based on its technologies by the end of the year.

The Silicon Valley chip maker said Wednesday 13 carriers worldwide have already deployed its WiMax technology based on the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface, and the momentum is growing.

Intel has a broadband initiative in place in Asia; however, the current and new business is centered in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East as well as in Asia.
