Briefs: IBM unveils mid-range storage network

IBM has a new networked storage system designed for midrange customers that operate modest distributed networks across remote locations.

The System Storage N5000 includes advanced software, mission-critical data access and disk-to-disk backup.

Company officials said the major attraction is the relatively low cost of under $100,000 and the comprehensive software features.

The N5000 goes on sale in December and is the second new offering spawned by IBM's alliance with Network Appliance.
