Briefs: Alcatel wraps broadband project in Russia

France's Alcatel said Wednesday it had completed a project to expand broadband access in Russia's Privolzhsky Federal Region.

The expanded network built for VolgaTelecom should be operational by the end of the year and will provide subscribers in the far-flung region with the capabilities for video-on-demand and other high-speed services.

VolgaTelecom said the infrastructure, which is based on Alcatel's 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager, will provide a basis for future "triple play" services.

In addition, Alcatel also provided specialized gear to provide broadband access to remote areas.
