In Brief: IBM unveils faster business server

IBM Tuesday announced a new 64-core business server that will be among the most powerful of its type in the world.

The p5 595 is capable of processing 4 million transactions per minute, a rate IBM says made it highly economical when based on per-transaction cost.

"The new system is the first to combine immense power and linear scaling with the ability to create virtualized environments that map business functions with IT assets," declared IBM's Ross Mauri.

The breakthrough was in part due to the incorporation of the Dual Stress processor technology that was originally developed for ultrafast videogame equipment.
