In Brief: Abilis Systems, IBM to work together

Abilis Systems announced Wednesday that IBM Microelectronics will manufacture its mobile digital TV chips.

Among those devices in which the chip will be used are cell phones, portable media players and PC laptops, according to semiconductor company Abilis, which is integrating both the RF tuner and the demodulator on a 90nm RF CMOS process for a single-chip mobile TV solution.

The company also said it would be adding its RF clock synthesizer into IBM IP portfolios as part of the agreement.

"We have chosen IBM for the high performances of their RF CMOS process and the quality of the RF design kit which have been key to achieve our technical and time-to-market objectives," said Abilis CEO Yves Mathys. "Our customers can now rely on the manufacturing capabilities of IBM to meet their needs in terms of quality, volume and continuity of supply."
