In Brief: India regulators mull 3G recommendations
India telecom regulators expect to soon issue recommendations on spectrum, entry fees and other issues involving third-generation wireless services.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India will effectively rewrite recommendations made by regulators last year, The Times of India reported Thursday.
Third-generation growth in India has been caught between booming demand and a shortage of spectrum to accommodate new wireless services such as streaming cell-phone video.
Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran said the Indian military was expected to vacate 45 megahertz of spectrum over the next few years to accommodate commercial 3G and that a separate group of government ministers was looking at that issue.
