In Brief: McAfee provides Cingular Wireless security

McAfee is offering business-oriented security for Cingular Wireless customers.

McAfee's flagship VirusScan Mobile is the flagship product for the new offering, which will be available for $30 a year and will protect against threats hidden in e-mail, Internet sites and instant messages.

The California security company said late Thursday the service launch was timely due to the rising threat of viruses engineered to attack cell phones and other mobile devices that business customers worldwide are becoming increasingly dependent on.

"We think it's important for carriers to get ahead of the curve, and offer proactive and preventative solutions before a significant attack occurs," said McAfee Vice President Todd Gebhart.

Cingular customers can download VirusScan Mobile into their SmartPhone, Symbian Series 60 or Microsoft Pocket Mobile PC and also obtain updates.
