New Year's hangover? Take two eels and call me in the morning

Dec 21, 2008

The French call it "la gueule de bois," or wooden mouth. For Germans, it's "Kater," or a tomcat. Japanese know it as "futsukayoi," or "two-days drunk." But whatever the language and wherever it takes place, a hangover is the same: headache, nausea, shaking, blurred vision, biliousness, dry mouth... the list of evils is long.

Hangovers stem from alcohol poisoning.
Alcohol poisoning is partially from acetaldehyde.
Acetaldehyde damages with free radicals.
Free radicals are countered by antioxidants.
Vitamin C is a good antioxidant.

Thus, I recommend eating and drinking fruits before, during, and after. The End.

I think if one knowingly drinks something poisonous to one's system, a toxic reaction is to be expected and deserved.
However, if a person is idiotic enough to drink to excess, at least take a B complex several hours before the planned stupidity. In my ignorant youth, it seemed to lessen the punishment (but my no means eliminated it).

Personal experience has shown me that genetic variations are the largest factor in the body's reactions to large quantities of alcohol.

Having recently turned 21, I've literally been *trying* to acheive a hangover, and have been met with little success. Friends of mine with similar tolerance levels who match me drink for drink get just a drunk as I do, but seem to be more prone to hangovers.

I'm not trying to brag, this is actually a bad thing - becoming an alcoholic seems like a great idea at this point.

For me water works too. Especially before you sleep. Drink at least 0,5 to 1 liter.

Water works very well - especially if you substitute it for the alcohol! No, I don't care if you drink, as long as you don't endanger the public, but I'll do without, thank you.
