Americans don't expect healthcare reform

Mar 07, 2006

A Wall Street Journal-Harris Interactive healthcare poll suggests most Americans don't trust the Bush administration to reform the U.S. healthcare system.

About three-quarters of those polled in the online survey of 2,426 U.S. adults said they don't believe U.S. President George Bush will effectively slow the increase in healthcare costs or reduce out-of-pocket healthcare costs, the Journal reported.

Splitting along party lines, 5 percent of Democrats polled said they are confident in the president's ability to reduce out-of-pocket costs, compared with 40 percent of Republicans.

The Journal said about 80 percent of Democrats said they trust their own party to produce good healthcare policies, compared with 67 percent of Republicans who have confidence in Republican-led initiatives.

The poll data have an error rate of 3 percentage points.
