Obama to meet with lawmakers, intel leaders on NSA

Jan 07, 2014

President Barack Obama is inviting lawmakers and intelligence officials to the White House to discuss National Security Agency programs as Obama prepares to unveil what changes he's prepared to make to the programs.

The White House says Obama will meet Wednesday with leaders from the U.S. intelligence community and with members of an oversight panel focusing on privacy and civil liberties.

Obama will meet with key lawmakers Thursday. That's the same day that privacy groups will be at the White House to meet separately with administration officials.

A months-long intelligence review prompted by disclosures by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden is nearing a conclusion. A review panel appointed by Obama has already suggested dozens of changes. Obama is expected to announce this month which of the recommendations he will implement.
