Iran tests first domestically made nuclear fuel rod

Jan 01, 2012

Iran said on Sunday that its scientists have "tested the first nuclear fuel rod produced from uranium ore deposits inside the country," the website of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation said.

"After going through physical checks, it was inserted into the core of the Tehran research reactor in order to study how well it works," the website added.

Iran said last month that it planned to insert domestically produced into the Tehran research reactor, which produces isotopes for medical purposes and currently runs on a nearly depleted stock of nuclear plates bought from Argentina in 1993.

The Tehran reactor requires uranium enriched to 20 percent, a far higher level than that needed for Iran's Russian-built in Bushehr, on the Gulf coast, which uses Russian fuel that is returned when spent.

The atomic energy organisation did not specify the level of enrichment of the trial fuel rod but Iran's programme to enrich uranium to the higher level has been at the centre of growing Western concerns about the goals of its nuclear programme.

Western governments have expressed fears that Iran's real aim is to develop a capability to enrich uranium to the 90 percent level necessary for a , an ambition Tehran strongly denies.

Uranium enriched to 20 percent level is normally manufactured into plate, not rod, form for use as fuel.

Western governments nations have expressed scepticism that Iran has the technology to produce plates.

Iran already faces four sets of UN sanctions and additional unilateral Western sanctions imposed over its refusal to heed repeated ultimatums to suspend its programme.

Ther announcement of the fuel rod test came a day after US President signed into law tough new sanctions targeting Iran's central bank and financial sector.

VD so sorry your poseur status leaves you so naive.

Who We Are:

"Jan. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said he would use air strikes against Iran unless the country dismantled its nuclear program or allowed inspectors to verify that the work isn't aimed at making a weapon."

What We Do:

"I would be saying to the Iranis, you either open up those facilities, you begin to dismantle them and make them available to inspectors, or we will degrade those facilities through air strikes," Santorum said on NBCs "Meet the Press" program today. "Iran will not get a nuclear weapon under my watch."

Otto, historically Muslims have been very tolerant in their conquests. Jihadists may be different, but say for the sake of argument that they succeeded in taking over most of the world, establishing a caliphate, etc; upon reaching such success I doubt they'd be able to keep up the furor long enough to do the "convert or die" bs. That's largely a Christian desire which is projected onto Muslims.

Muslims have controlled most of the civilized world in the past and they were very tolerant comparatively.

Most of American citizens are far more moderate and peace loving than the extreme views presented in this thread. Anyone supporting the American Nazi's (a bunch of really insane people) or those on the extreme left (same description applies) are the exceptions to the average American citizen. Our biggest problem is how money has corrupted congress, which no longer represents their constituents. For example: around 65 percent favor gun control, yet the NRA prevents it. 65 percent favor increasing taxes on the rich, yet the GOP continually block such measures (even though 61 percent of republicans favor that!). I could go on...Muslims are welcome here, so are Catholics, Buddhists, and so on. What is not welcome are people claiming they speak for all Americans and then want to exclude some group because of bigotry, racism, or whatever. Anyone seeking to install a religious dictatorship in the US will have a fight on their hands. The Constitution prohibits it, and that is not going

I never made a racist remark, as I have proven to any rational reader. Iran can't be trusted with nuclear weapons as their leadership are caveman religious fanatics.

I don't mind them having nuclear power, even though their country floats on oil. They need to let the global community perform inspections if they want just peaceful nuclear. The west rightly calls the shots, because they are superior nations wrt humanity and sophistication.

Just like you "didn't bring up race" so you can't be a racist, right?

I have NEVER used the N-word, either in personal life, nor on this web site, neither in any thread, nor via PM to anyone.

You have but that wasn't the point. The point was the n-word is Latin for black, literally. It's also the name of a country. It however, is a very racist term.

You tried to claim "rag-head" is not racist because Muslims do in fact wear turbans. This is absurd. "Rag-head" is highly offensive and racist, also religiously bigoted.

I was simply demonstrating with the n-word as an example how stupid your defense of your use of the term "rag-head" was.

You however think it is brilliant and really don't believe what you said was inappropriate. Sad.

Also, moron, slander is spoken; libel is written. Learn the difference. It makes you seem like more of a tard than you already are.

Odd. They haven't threatened war against any nation, and yet your Republican leadership, and Republican compatriots are tripping over themselves to say that they want to murder more Iranians.

And your government along with Israel have for at least the last couple of years been engaging in covert and overt acts of war and assassination against the sovereign and peaceful nation of Iran.

For the hateful statements that you have made, I am forced by adopting your logic to conclude that you and your family should be killed by Iranian weapons fire.

The only nations that proclaim Iran to be a threat are the cowardly nations of America and Israel.

But in reality of course, not even America considers Iran a threat.

America sees Iran as a means of transferring more taxpayer money to Republican Corporate Military Sponsors and as a means to steal more Oil for the American Corporate Oil Industry.

And that means that provided that you aren't lying about your own cowardly fear of Iran, then you are one of the biggest fools who has ever existed.

The contortions that you go to in the attempt to pin that tiered charge on me is telling in itself.
The term neoconservative as applied to Noumenon was coined by socialist Michael Harrington as a derisive term for leftists and liberals who were migrating rightward. Many of the first generation neoconservatives were originally liberal Democrats, or even socialists and Marxists, often Trotskyites. Most originated in New York, and most were Zionists. They drifted to the right in the 1960s and 1970s as the Democratic Party moved to the anti-war McGovernite left.

The Zionist nature of the neoconservatives is quite obvious. Those individuals who became neoconservatives were perceptive enough to see that in the 1960s liberals and the left were identifying with issues group quotas, anti-fascism and Third World causes that were apt to be harmful to the collective interest of Israeli expansionism.
kochevnik
3.7 / 5 (18) Jan 01, 2012
Gal Beckerman writes that it is a fact that as a political philosophy, neoconservatism was born among the children of Jewish immigrants and is now largely the intellectual domain of those immigrants grandchildren. In fact, Beckerman maintains that If there is an intellectual movement in America to whose invention Jews can lay sole claim, neoconservatism is it.

It only makes sense that the treacherous right, historically originating from the Tories who fought with England against the American patriots, would align themselves with a subversive allegiance to Israel over American interests. They are historically consistent.

Yet Americans are brainwashed to think that those few neocons, if they do exist, could not possibly be strong enough to inuence American foreign policy. Rather they are told the war sprung from the fertile minds of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and even George W. Bush, as totally impossible as the latter case could be.

Guys, it is irrelevant what ideology or religion Iran has, they simply do not have a very sophisticated technology infrastructure.
This is a "white elephant" project. They will not be able to scale up high-grade uranium production without going bankrupt. Likewise, their missile program is on a 1950s level. a few satellites for prestige, yes, but not mass produced ICBMs nor the warheads required.

Bounty Hunters. Those squadrons flying off the USS Enterprise flew CAP
over Saigon during the evacuation in April 1975. Aside from that the

-I find it hard to lie because I realize how hard it would be to maintain a lie, especially in a community such as this. But for genuinely stupid people this is not a problem as it rarely occurs to them.

Compounding this problem is the unfortunate predicament of some women who developed the affliction of compulsive lying and found it relatively easy because, within the social circles they existed, what they looked like was far more important than what they had to say. And so their lying was tolerated.

We have witnessed recently the tragic results of this:

The affliction compounds itself as the sufferers age and their faculties, along with their physical appeal, begin to wane. They are still compelled to LIE but, as they never had to develop the skills needed to do so effectively, their artifice becomes harder to maintain.

Their lies become more desperate and transparent. Their pathology often leads to ruined relationships as friends and loved ones can no longer stand to be around them. Their lives become empty and their behavior becomes bizarre. Theiir self-deception causes them to concoct elaborate (for them) fantasy worlds wherein glassy-headed aliens for instance might one day come to rescue them from their self-imposed prison of lies and misery.

RitchieGuy,

Didn't you mean to write "Canada" rather than "USA"? :)

Personally, although I think that Iran still has a long way to go so far as nuclear tech goes, they now have the necessary ICBM tech that is a precursor to what they need to reach us.

I am all for them in harnessing nuclear power for peaceful purposes, but historically they have been worrisome in the region. So, on the other hand, I can see why people around them are worried and why it is that both Israel and the US are also concerned. Iran has stated that they want to wipe Israel off the map and wishes death to America on a pretty regular basis.

Now, I also realize that the US has gotten herself involved in Iranian affairs and angered them over that Shah business, but wishing death on people is a very un-Islamic thing to do, too.

See some of the Ahadith for the reasons why that is.

Peaceful purposes would be a legitimate excuse if that was really happening. But without inspectors examining Iran's nuclear plants, you know there is no safe way to determine what they're really doing. Of course, all of Ahmadinejad's rhetoric could be just that. . .rhetoric. But can we take the chance that he's bluffing? Better to be on the safe side than to get a rude awakening when the ICBMs start flying out of Iran.

The Tehran reactor requires uranium enriched to 20 percent
The level of uranium enrichment in strictly industrial reactors doesn't exceed few percent. This is just a hidden cost of nuclear energy - it enables the unstable theocratic regimes to develop nuclear weapons nearly legally. Only replacement of fission with cold fusion and strict global monitoring of nuclear reactors with neutrino telescopes can prohibit it for future.

There isn't a nation on earth that doesn't have the "right" to develop nuclear weapons. All nations are sovereign, and it is only through treaty that they tie their own hands.

Iran is a signatory nation to the NNPT. To that end it has pledged that while honoring the treaty it will not produce nuclear weapons, and will delay for some time their production should they leave the treaty.

Apparently international treaties doesn't work in the same way. They're based on restrictions, which are applied collectively. It's much cheaper to nuke out irresponsible regimes in preventive attack of united forces, than to suffer with war years later.

Do you realize, if allied forces would destroy Nazi regime in 1938, it would save lives of millions of people, not to say about resources wasted in WWW II?

..if we could all realize everyone is a person, a human too..
This realization has two sides. People, their regimes the more aren't good or evil by their very nature - they're both. Every philosophy which considers only one part of humanity is dedicated to intrinsic failure.
Look, my country is relatively rich one, our GDP per person is much higher than this one of Iranian and we simply have no reason to enrich uranium up to 20 percent. We don't need to develop nuclear weapons for anything to become and stay rich. We even don't need the nuclear weapons for intimidation. The people develop the weapons from the only reason: to use them. The only way, how to prohibit the wars is not to allow the people to make the weapons. If we allow the weapons for criminal regimes, then we must allow them even for those democratic one, and this is simply the way to the hell. The government driven with religious fundamentalists should suffer with consequences, if he escalates the arms race.

Exactly my point. NamVet said he flew F-14s while in the Navy. You don't get drafted into the Navy, so he must have flown other types of aircraft PRIOR to the F-14s being deployed during the Vietnam war. The war was still going on up until the fall of Saigon and people had to be airlifted out by helicopter, while the F-14s and other aircraft were in the process of protecting the evacuation.
The text clearly states, and which Ghost clearly does NOT comprehend, that """ ASIDE FROM THAT the Tomcat did not participate in the Vietnam war.""" That means that, the Tomcat pilots were on a mission to make sure that enemy aircraft did not fly into the evacuation zone. That means that the F-14s were up in the air, GhostTard

What you are trying to do, is salvage one of your lying bullshit stories. It's not working. Why don't you just make up a new one? It would be more effective if you told it as namvet666. Or try a new sockpuppet like TuffGuy_Im_Not_a_Woman_SoStopIntimidating _MeOr_Ill_KickYorAss. You transparent ignoramus ballerina.

LOL. . .Ghost STILL believes Pirouette is a woman for some strange reason. Apparently he/she has examined Pirouette's internet crotch to search for a virtual vagina, even if it's only his wish to find one.
Maybe his mama beat him once too often and, later in life, he feels that everyone he hates just HAS to be female. How sad to see him in his manic-depressive state and his descent into such obsessive behavior at the behest and protection of his butt buddy, FrankHerbert$hit.
I find it amusing that Ghostof$hithead pretends to care about the quality of Physorg, but does not notice all of the inane and rambling posts that others submit in this and other threads. Could Ghost be of a "one-track mind" in his/her obsession and chasing around of the former name of Pirouette?
Is TheGhostofOtto1923, in reality, TINKERBELL? YES, I BELIEVE HE IS.

KomradeKochevnik. . .thanks for the link where it says (from Panetta): To make them understand that they cannot continue to do what theyre doing. Are they trying to develop a nuclear weapon? No. But we know that theyre trying to develop a nuclear capability, and thats what concerns us. And our red line to Iran is, do not develop a nuclear weapon. Thats a red line for us.

If Obama appointee Panetta says there's no nukes, then there's not going to be nukes aka WMDs. That's good news, Komrade. . .be happy. :)

Truthers, UFO nuts, and conspiracy theorists of nearly every type:

Please tell me exactly how your "theories" have improved your life. I simply do not understand how a person could devote so much free time to such a futile endeavor. Oh, it's for truth justice and prosperity? Then why are you typing on a computer and not actually doing something productive? Gotta get the word out? The internet has been here long enough. Everyone has been exposed to your ideas and we have dismissed them appropriately.

You are losers of the most pathetic variety. If you really wanted a better world, you'd actually fight for it, you lazy cowards.

- Unashamed OIF Veteran (I don't agree with the justification of that operation or preemption, but at least I fight for what I think is right at the time)
