Dust settles to reveal asteroid truth
Hayabusa re-entering the atmosphere
(PhysOrg.com) -- Early results from analysis of dust on the Hayabusa space capsule, which landed in South Australia last year, have revealed an indisputable link between the asteroids we see in space and meteorites that we collect on land.
Published recently in Science, six papers on the findings of the Hayabusa mission provided samples of a pristine asteroid, known as Itokawa.
Earth Chemistry Professor Trevor Ireland from The Australian National University is a coauthor of four of the papers, and said the dust contained an exciting message.
Previously there had been problems relating the nature of asteroids with meteorites because the surfaces of meteorites are destroyed as they come in through the atmosphere, he said.
The samples taken from Itokawa are the previously unknown skin of an asteroid and their investigation has confirmed that meteorites that land on Earth are indeed related to the asteroids we see in space.
The Hayabusa Mission involved two touchdowns on the asteroid. Professor Ireland noted that the original intent was for a gun to fire into the surface of Itokawa when Hayabusa touched down, with the ejected sample collected into the chamber, but a software interlock prevented the gun from firing.
This was fairly disappointing in that we didnt get as much material returned as was intended, which would have provided us with a bulk sample of the asteroid to analyse, he said.
In hindsight though, a bulk sample would not necessarily have provided the same information as we have obtained from these small dust grains that sat on the very surface of the asteroid.
These were the samples we really wanted because they illustrate the dynamic nature of the solar system, and these have been delivered back to us.
The samples from the skin of the asteroid show that they have been exposed to cosmic rays and solar wind for less than 10 million years meaning that the asteroid is very young in solar system terms.
The ages of the parent bodies are over 4.5 billion years old, and when the parent body had a collision, material was broken off and reassembled into Itokawa and sent on an orbit through the inner solar system.
This demonstrates that inner solar system asteroids are only with us for a short time geologically speaking, he said.
Theyre ejected from the asteroid belt and their orbits will decay until they fall into the Sun, collide with planets, or otherwise get accelerated away when they come close to planets.

Any true scientists would accept what evidence suggests and work from there to realizing effective solutions to mitigate or tolerate the changes being detected. There is clearly natural and 'unnatural' contributions which affect how our environments change. The true argument should always be around what exactly our influence is on the earth, however small or large.
Nobody here cares about your endless citations, you know why? Physorg.com is not a science journal, or even a forum to have formal or meaningful debates, you are not convincing anyone of anything.
You should spend your time on forums where arguing as you do actually carries meaning, where your sources would be studied, and meaningful counter-arguments would be stated. Your pointless persistence is little else than annoying here.

He is persistent isn't he? And, yes, that can be annoying to some...even to many. You might want to 'annoy' yourself less and just ignore him. Nevertheless, he has a RIGHT, a RIGHT, 2 write, speak, & B heard by those who will listen. You may not agree with this principle regardless of wherever you live, you simply see no value in tolerating someone you don't know and do not appreciate, I can understand that. Physorg has NOT kept him from posting, & neither will you.
Further, his postings are 'different' some might say 'controversial' but also provoke response, why, they even got a response from you, INCREDIBLE! Getting a response from you may have just justified the usefulness of his posts, WOW!
I also note, Oliver does post but he does not "argue."

Yes..oh Yes, He did! But 'crazy' has a contexual component. The German government, condemned Einsteins work as, "....maniacal Jew science..." Oh you don't like those Nazis? Contextually, and I quote Dr. Martin Luther King, "...everything Hitler did, was legal..." The Nazis' were mass murderers and as long as they stayed inside their borders, Chamberlian and Europe sat back AND DID NOTHING! Einstein was sued by THREE different women for having fathered children with them, innocent, guilty? He was definitely NOT a virgin or a saint. Einstein publicly denounced quantum physics saying."The good Lord does not play with dice." Oops! He therefore not only disagreed with learned others but with science itself - BUT we forgive him, his brilliance outshines any flaw he had, rightly so!

Same person.
Oliver is still on probation AND there are five living people that have to live with what Oliver did as long as they live. Not counting the suicide that may or may not be related to Oliver's behavior. The only reason Oliver is not in jail is that only one of the original counts was still within the statute of limitations.>>

EVEN if he is this offensive person whose actions are/were illegal. Do let me know when Oliver tries to discuss it again. Last time he did I had no trouble at all showing he didn't know what he was talking about. I still do. His only response these days is to repeat the crap I have disproved many times.
