In brief: Telecom N.Z. reorganizes operations

Telecom New Zealand Wednesday announced a reorganization of its executive suite and a tightening of its operations.

As expected, the move included combining its residential fixed-line and mobile operations under the office of the "Chief Operating Officer" consumer and a separate department to handle the needs of business customers.

A new office was created to manage Telecom's move into video and television.

The company said in a statement that the move reflected "the move to a business model more tightly organized around customers" and made no mention of potential job losses.

Like many telcos worldwide, Telecom New Zealand is fending off challenges to new competition in the wireless telephony and broadband business.
