Briefs: Microsoft said designing wireless device

Microsoft is reportedly developing a handheld wireless device that has game, music and video capabilities and will be ready for release in a year or two.

The device is being worked on by many of the same designers who created the Xbox 360 video game player and will take on iPod, Gameboy and other popular devices once it hits the stores, the San Jose Mercury News reported Monday.

The newspaper said industry publications have dubbed the project the "iPod killer" as it seeks to fold all popular wireless consumer applications into a single gadget.

Sources portrayed the project as a keystone of Microsoft's immediate future and noted that a primary feature will be the ability to play games currently in circulation for the Xbox.
