TiVo downloads for portable devices

November 21, 2005

TiVo is set to introduce a service that will allow recorded television shows to be downloaded to iPods and other similar portable devices.

The service is an offshoot of TiVo to Go and comes in response to the growing demand for content to fill up popular portable viewing gadgets and the advent of digital recorders being offered by cable and satellite companies.

The service basically allows subscribers to download a recorded television program on to a personal computer and then transfer it to a portable device.

The Los Angeles Times said Monday the service would be tested before being offered to its more than 1 million stand-alone subscribers as early as the coming winter.
