Aavid Thermalloy and Swales Aerospace announced today that the companies have formed a strategic alliance to pursue new commercial opportunities for electronic cooling applications utilizing Swales' industry-leading Loop Heat Pipe technologies. This new initiative stems from work jointly begun in October 2000 by Aavid and Swales to develop and manufacture advanced cooling solutions for applications in the electronics industry. Under the agreement, the companies will develop, manufacture and market technology-based thermal management solutions for digital and power electronics.
Swales Aerospace, the world leader in two-phase thermal management systems for NASA, DoD and telecommunication satellites, brings to the alliance its advanced technology in the area of heat pipes, loop heat pipes and thermal storage devices. With Aavid Thermalloy's high volume production capabilities and global marketing network for electronic cooling components, the two companies plan to offer commercial-off-the shelf heat removal devices that will further reduce the size, weight and cost of semiconductor-based products.
"Aavid and Swales have been working together for several years now," said Tom Wilson, CEO of Swales Aerospace. "And the value of our partnership will soon be felt in the marketplace. Together we are bringing forward solutions that will help the commercial electronics industry overcome existing challenges and experience a new era of advancement," he stated.
Aavid Thermal Technologies' and Aavid Thermalloy's CEO, Bart Patel added, "Our relationship with Swales has proven that two quality-driven organizations can achieve great outcomes when working in concert. We are delighted that our partnership is moving in this new direction, and are looking forward to a long and mutually rewarding alliance."
